“But who will keep me safe from him…?” My voice drifts, and his face appears before me.
My skin prickles when I feel his hands on me, his body pressed up against mine.
I’m not him, Elara. I won’t hurt you, his sinful voice whispers against my ear.
And I want to believe him. I want to believe he’s different.
“You like him.”
My fingers feather across my throat. I can still feel the warmth of his breath as though he’s right here.
“I can see it in your eyes,” Gran goes on. “That’s enough to start a marriage.”
“No way, Gran. I’d rather keep running than marry that awful man.”
Oh, Elara. You’re not even cute when you lie. There’s nothing awful about him, except maybe how awfully handsome he is.
She shakes her head. “You’re just as stubborn as your father.”
I grind my molars, not wanting to be associated with him. “Let’s just eat. I don’t want to talk about this anymore.”
“Alright.” Her mouth twists, but she respects my wishes and continues with her stir-fry.
I’d hate to lose Brody, though if it comes down to it, I’ll quit.
I’ll have to.
There’s no way in hell I’ll ever become Tynan Quinn’s wife.
CHAPTER 17
TYNAN
I can’t get her eyes out of my head the following day, the anger within them.
She doesn’t want this.
Neither do I, Elara. But sometimes we have to do the things we don’t want to do.
And she’s going to realize soon enough that she has no say in this. Not with me.
She will be my wife.
She will wear my ring.
And she will not refuse me.
There’s a knock on my office door at the house. My brothers, Fionn and Cillian strut in and settle on the sofa, tipping their heads up in greeting. Cillian is three years younger than me, while Fionn and I have seven years between us.
“You ready?” Fionn leans back.
“Yeah. They should be here any minute.”
We execute most of our deals here on the estate. And the latest is with the Russians to secure a weapons agreement.
The Marinov family is powerful and has deep connections in the drug and arms world.
They have access to some of the most quality weapons out there. Working with them may not be my favorite, but we need firepower.
