“Fine, the devil it is.”
“Now you’re speaking my language. And, McHale?”
“Yeah?”
“You know what happens if you break my baby sister’s heart, right?”
“Let me guess. You’re gonna break mine.”
“Yeah, but your heart is the last thing I’ll break. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, congrats!”
“Yeah, thanks. A man has got to be crazy to have you as his sister-in-law.”
She laughs while my pulse beats faster, unsure if I can even pull this wedding off.
“Do you think my plan of surprising her is stupid?” I ask. “Because you can tell me, you know. You won’t hurt my feelings. I mean, it’s shite, right? Women don’t like that? Ugh, I should just propose like a normal guy and let her plan a wedding and do all that girly crap.”
She bursts with thick laughter. “Aww, nervous Devlin is adorable. I can see why she’s in love with you.”
“Shut up. I’m not adorable.”
But she doesn’t. She keeps laughing while I mutter a Gaelic curse under my breath.
When she finally stops laughing, she says, “No, the surprise isn’t stupid. Eriu doesn’t care about fancy weddings and all that stuff. She just wants you, and I think surprising her is gonna give her the biggest shock of her life. So, this is what we’re gonna do…”
CHAPTER 28
ERIU
Devlin called hours ago and said he’s got news to talk to me about. Said he went to see my father. He didn’t want to tell me more over the phone, but he should be back any minute now.
I switch between channels, trying to let the time go by faster. Did he finally convince my dad that Mason is a tool and I shouldn’t be forced to marry him? That would be something. Would save me from confronting Mason. If I never see him again, that would be great.
As I put on a random TV show, the front door creaks, and in a flash, I’m off the bed and running toward him.
“Hey, baby…” His thick accent, that erotic look in his eyes when I jump into his arms, makes me feel like the luckiest woman on earth.
My legs tighten around his hips, my heels pressing into his ass.
“I’ve missed you.” His voice drops into a seductive timbre, and arousal grows within me.
I lean down and kiss him once, and a growl rips out of him.
He fists my hair, his tongue invading my mouth as he backs me to the wall so he can kiss me deeper. My bare core rubs around his belt and I moan, needing more.
Breathlessly, he pitches back, hooded eyes raking every inch of my face, his palm cupping my cheek. My body warms, and I smile at him like he’s the summer sun in the middle of winter, keeping me warm.
“Can you say that again?” I ask, pressing my cheek to his chest.
“I missed you, lass.”
“Mm…” My flesh prickles. “I like how that sounds.”
A moan slips out, and he pushes himself in between my thighs, a devilish grin fastening to his features. He holds me like I weigh nothing, working my hips on him as his gaze bores deeper.
“You’re mine now. You’re gonna hear it a lot.”
The promise in his voice feels like he means it, that we can be together. His mouth latches on to my throat, and he kisses up to my jaw until his lips capture mine.
