I didn’t expect him to give a shit about the people using his drugs. I guess I thought he didn’t have any feelings, seeing how he bought me in order to use me. I’m still unsure of how I feel about that.

“I’ll fill it out,” I tell him. He looks up from his plate and narrows his eyes at me.

“What?”

“I’ll fill out your forms,” I tell him this time. He nods his head, a smile crossing his face.

“Good, thanks. It helps a lot if we know your background.”

“It makes sense. So, how long before you give me the drugs?”

“Few days. I have shit I have to do first. I have a run to go on, and that’s gonna take me a few days at the most,” he informs me as he eats.

“What’s a run?” I ask him as I fork another bite of food and bring it to my lips.

“It’s a security job we have this time. We protect whatever product the other guys are movin’.”

“And that’s it?”

“That’s it. We keep it safe until it reaches its destination,” he replies.

“Seems easy enough,” I say as he chuckles.

“It’s dangerous.”

“How so?”

“You ask a lot of questions for a girl who was hell-bent on stayin’ silent.”

“Sorry,” I mumble and go back to my food. I knew I was pushing my luck, and I shouldn’t have, but this new world of mine interesting after hearing the girls talk in the hallway.

“Don’t be. I don’t mind questions, and I’ll give you the answers I can,” he says before continuing. “Think of it like this. The president has guards, yeah? They will do whatever it takes to keep him safe, even if it means layin’ their own life on the line. We do the same with whatever products are bein’ moved. Make sense?” I nod my head. That makes perfect sense.

“Do you know what you’re guarding?”

“Most of the time. Sometimes, we have no idea; we just guard the truck or van. You know the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ sayin’? That’s kind of how we are.”

“That has to be scary.”

“It can be stressful. It can be fun, too, though. Not all bad comes from runs.”

“What will I be doing while you’re gone?”

“Sleepin’ by yourself,” he smirks.

“That’s a bonus, but I’m serious. I can’t leave the room.”

“No. Not until I get back. I don’t want the other guys to have to worry over you.”

“What if I said I wouldn’t go anywhere?”

“And you’d expect me to believe that?” he smiles again, and damn, does he look hot.

“It would be true.”

“What was your life like before you were taken, Addison?” Great he’s changing the subject on me.

“My life is pretty boring. I go to work and go home. I don’t have many friends. I talk to my parents probably once a week just to keep them happy and let them know I’m alive.”
