"After Whizz, Nitro, and Marc got rid of Hicks and his core team, the remaining members fled, but I don't see any of them risking the MC or Nitro's wrath for revenge," I said.
"No?" Spike asked.
I shook my head. "Those guys were cowards, hired guns," I explained. “None of them were really loyal to Hicks.”
"Could be someone who was close to Hicks, maybe a close friend or family member?" Spike suggested.
I was about to dismiss that thought, but I didn't. Spike might have a point there.
Hicks avoided talking about anything personal with his men or with me, but even monsters had people who cared if they were gone, right?
Spike and I discussed more theories. At one point, Spike even sweetly brought up dinner for us—sandwiches and fries.
A knock came on the door while we were in the middle of eating. Nitro poked his head in the room.
I didn't know why but I was more than glad to see him.
This was silly. Just moments ago all I wanted to do was get away from Marc and him.
I awkwardly rose to my feet and hastily rubbed the grease from my mouth.
I could also see my brother over Nitro's shoulder, shuffling in the corridor.
"Hey," Nitro said, but his gaze was solely focused on me.
"Get out, me and my new bestie are talking," Spike joked.
Nitro narrowed his eyes all of a sudden as he stomped into the room and walked right towards me.
"Whose clothes are you wearing?" Nitro demanded, tugging at my shirt and sniffing at it.
I batted his fingers away. "Calm down, you over-possessive bear. Spike loaned me some clothes. That's all," I said.
"He could've gone to my room and grabbed some of mine instead," Nitro muttered.
"What? Nitro, he's still recovering. You can't expect him to do that," I argued, although I guiltily had the same thought earlier.
"Tommy, glad you're fine," Marc said, entering the room as well.
"Party poopers," Spike pointed out. "I see you two have figured things out?" I asked.
"Sorry for earlier," Nitro told me. "I let my anger get the better of me. So did Marc."
"What he said," Marc told me. "Tommy, I'm sorry for going off at you like that without listening to your side of the story. Won't happen again."
"It better or Big Brother Spike's going to knock some heads," Spike said.
Marc looked at Spike with distaste. "Who the heck are you?" Marc asked.
"Someone who officially elected himself as Tommy's adopted big brother," Spike said with a grin.
I looked at Spike. "Thank you for listening and letting me hang out with you," I said.
"Anytime, Tommy," he said with a wink.
Nitro, Marc, and I finally left Spike to his rest.
"You should stay with me for a little while, until we sort this matter out," Nitro said, pulling out the folded note from his jacket pocket.
