“I have a few consultants I am planning to connect with after my shift today – trying to bring more people to my channel. I know my content is good, I just need people to see it. I’m almost done with my new paint sample inspiration looks and I want to get that series up next month. I would hate to have all of those videos flop.”

“You recorded the one with the orange paint sample I picked out, right?” He immediately replies. He knows I hate the color orange. The apron I have to wear every day seriously limits the clothing and makeup choices I can do and the color does nothing for my decidedly white, winter, cool skin tone. I make do though. I understand that it’s important to wear what you love and what you feel good in. And for me, orange ain’t it.

“Yes, I’m not happy about it, but I think I made it work. I’m planning to do that sample for one of the first videos so my pinks and purples can really shine. By the way, have you finished the Windsor job yet? I got your punch list supplies delivered last Friday, but haven’t heard from you on if that was all you ended up needing.” I start pulling out the most recent purchase receipts so we can go over the items and get everything finalized on this job.

We get back to work and finish up ten minutes before it’s time for me to clock out. New parts are ordered and an email has been sent to my window guy asking about timelines on a new project starting after the Windsor one wraps up. For my contractors that I’ve been with a lot, I do more than just their hardware orders. I’m not commission based, but taking care of my guys is really important to me. I like being able to take care of everything from the studs to the shingles and everything in between. And the free coffee, pens, and occasional new water bottle isn’t too bad either.

After work, I head home to begin my afternoon routines. I’m in my room, in my comfy clothes, tea in hand, by 4:30 PM. I sent out the form responses to the different websites and experts when I got home and now I’m just waiting on the responses.

I grab my dinner from the fridge after finishing editing one of the blue makeup videos. Getting up and doing something else while I have a long editing session is important to me and helps me avoid headaches. When it feels like I have taken enough time away from my laptop, I head back to my desk. Time to see if any of the consultants replied to my inquiries. It’s only been a few hours, but I’m hopeful.

“Please let this work.” I whisper to myself as I begin checking them out.

After glancing through the first few replies, I realize how overwhelming this is going to be.

The quotes are outrageous and they want all of this stuff already done to make it happen. I don’t even know where to begin. Apparently, I need more help than just a few buttons clicked on a website or my email list. This is going to be an actual project – like runway glam makeup look project level. Well, maybe more than that, but that’s the idea. This isn’t a “touch up in the car” thing that I can just wing on my way to work. I need this to be intentional.

And they’re all form responses. Did any of them actually read my email or check out my content?

An hour and ten proposals later, I am ready to just say “screw it” and close my laptop. But one last reply catches my eye.

The Funnel to You

Hey Sasha,

Thanks so much for reaching out. I took some time this evening to look over your social media, website, and YouTube Channel. It seems like you have some great content, even though it’s not geared towards my specific demographic.

I’ve been working with other micro influencers for a few years and I would love the chance to chat and see if I am a good fit.

I’ve attached my calendar so you can set up a time that works for you so we can hop on Zoom and discuss. This won’t be a sales call – just a time to talk through some options to see what would work best for you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I have also linked a few other client accounts so you can see the sequence from their social channels to their websites to their other items that they offer so you can see the work I have done.

Have a great rest of your evening,

Matt

Hmmm. Okay Matt, you actually took time to look at my content, so let’s give you a shot. I look over his calendar and book a slot for tomorrow evening. Then, I take a look at the accounts he linked.

One is a lifestyle blogger, another is a fitness expert, and another is apparently obsessed with kombucha. But they all have clean feeds, easy to navigate links, and I end up subscribing to everything they have. I don’t even really like kombucha, but I’m intrigued.

What magic does this man possess? And how much is this going to cost me?

Iget the notification that I have a new booking – it’s Sasha.

I sit back in my chair and take a deep breath. I’ve been following Sasha on social media (through my sister) for several years. I have been interested in her for a while, but had no idea on how to approach her without coming across as the “creepy guy on the other side of the screen.” I have a younger sister and she gets enough of those messages that I knew I didn’t want to come across that way to Sasha. Her content is always on my sister’s phone and in her stories, so I feel like I already know her a little bit. And I may have seen her out and about in town a few times. I never approached her, because again, I don’t want to be creepy.
