Sophia’s eyes widened. “Oh My God, he’s that guy?”
“Yes, that guy.”
“Wow.”
“Now you see why I need to know every detail about him?”
“Are you planning to seduce him?”
“I don’t know, but the more details I have the better position I’m in.”
“I don’t like this,” Sophia said. “Don’t you think you should let this go? It’s been fifteen years.”
“I can’t. I have to do this. Do you know how he made me feel?”
“Brooke, look at you. You’re beautiful, successful. You can get any guy you want.”
“Except for Jamal Styles.”
“Do you still like him?”
“No, of course not,” I scoffed. “I just need to do this.”
“You don’t need to prove anything, Brooke.”
“Will you help me or not?”
“I don’t know.” Sophia slowly shook her head.
“I have an idea.”
“Oh God, I hate when you say you have an idea,” my best friend groaned. “Remember my grandfather’s mule?”
I ignored her as the wheels were turning in my brain. “All you have to do is use your social contacts to set up a blind date.”
“What?”
“No one can know you are responsible for this and Jamal must not know who his date is.”
Sophia shook her head. “Brooke, that’s a bad idea.”
“No, it’s a great idea.”
“What are you thinking?”
I grinned. “I don’t know yet.”
“I don’t like this one bit.”
“Jamal mustn’t know the date is with me,” I reiterated. “He likes skinny women, so he must be floored when we meet. “I’ll pretend to be surprised.”
“What if he insults you again?” Sophia asked.
“I won’t give him the chance.”
“No Brooke, this could backfire.”
“Just do it and I will worry about the rest.”
