As I approached, he eyed me from head to toe. I gave him my sweetest smile, a sway in my hips as I glided towards him.
“Well hello,” he greeted.
“Hi,” I replied. “You must be one of the actors in this drama.”
“No, but I must have died and gone to heaven.”
I laughed. The man was indeed gorgeous, but if what I overheard between the two brothers was true, he was also as shallow as a spoon of water.
“You know the guy who just left?” I ventured.
“That’s my younger brother.”
“He looked upset.”
He cocked one brow before answering. “Girl trouble. And your name is?”
“Sophia,” I made sure to give it that sexy edge the way one would Sofia Lauren’s name. “I might be able to help your brother.”
“I was thinking that maybe you could help me instead.”
“I wasn’t talking about that kind of help,” I replied. “I meant, I know the girl loves.”
“Oh.” He looked deflated. “And how do you plan to help him?”
“I assume you love your brother and would do anything for him?”
“Almost?”
“Does that almost include putting aside your own personal feelings towards women to make him happy?”
He chuckled. “If he wants to date that lawyer, more power to him.”
“Then help me get them together.”
“How?”
I proceeded to tell Robert all about Brooke and how strong willed she was. I told him about how she was hurt and never attended her own graduation because of what she overheard in that locker room. He listened and when I was done, he mentioned that it was his fault.
“I really messed this up, didn’t I?’
“Now is your chance to fix it. They really care about each other.”
“What do you want me to do?”
“Here’s the plan.”
23 – Brooke
“Where on earth are you taking me?”
This was ridiculous. It wasn’t my birthday and not a special occasion that I could recall. Yet, here I was being led to a room in one of LA’s most prominent hotels. Sophia refused to let me know why she was taking me there and I had the urge to slap her. I planted my foot in the hallway after getting off the elevator. There was no way I was moving until she told me why I was there.
“I’m going no further.”
The woman had the gall to walk away. “Suit yourself,” she said. “And let the curiosity kill you.”
She knew me. She knew me too well. Determined not to move a muscle, I watched her walk up to one of the rooms. I was unable to see the number clearly as I was about four doors down. Sophia knocked the door and it opened a few seconds later. She then disappeared inside.
