Lou couldn’t hear what he was saying, but his body language was easy to read. He was a natural around kids. His low, crooning voice and his slow, gentle movements were calming to little Erica, who barely protested at all. He was like some kind of baby whisperer, and as she watched his skilful movements, saw the smile Erica gave him, her heart filled with love for this extraordinary doctor. For his kindness, his compassion, his gentleness.
Oh, no.A sinking feeling enveloped her as she pulled sharply away from the glass.
She was still in love with him?
Her heart thundered in her ears. She’d been lying to herself. Going to bed every night pretending she was over him. Reciting all the reasons why she’d be stupid to fall for him again. Shutting her eyes, completely satisfied that her heart was intact.
But she’d been wrong.
She should have known that her love for Will could survive anything. She had known five years ago he was her guy, and despite enormous upheaval, nothing had changed. She risked a look through the glass again — the plain truth was right there in front of her. She pulled away, resting her back against the wall, grateful for its support as she sighed heavily.
She was still in love with Dr William Galligher.
And no amount of fooling herself she didn’t love him was going to make up for the fact that she did.
