Chapter 10
Liam
I had everything all set up for the weekend. It was the last weekend of June and I convinced Hannah to get her shifts covered. I got all of the equipment ready, the Jeep was all packed, and I was ready to go.
“Liam,” my mother called out the door as I was getting ready to leave.
“What?” I asked.
“I hope you’re using protection.”
“Mom, stop!” I yelled, shocked by her statement. Ever since she found out I was dating someone she didn’t first approve of, she started making stupid comments like that towards me.
“I wouldn’t want you to accidentally get her pregnant and then she’s set for life.” My mom crossed her arms over her chest and gave me a cold look. Hot rage rose in me at her accusation against Hannah.
“How dare you,” I said with an eerily tone.
“Why else would a girl like Hannah Meyer be interested in you? You two have nothing in common,” my mother revealed, and my mouth dropped open because I hadn’t even told her Hannah’s name.
“How do you know who I’m seeing? Are you spying on me?” I asked as I slammed the door of my Jeep and rounded it to come face-to-face with my mother.
“When you have money you can find any information you want. That girl is going to try to trap you.”
“You don’t know the first thing about Hannah,” I growled, “But just so you understand, if Hannah wanted to be a kept woman, I would do it. I’d take her off to Vegas, marry her, put her up in a penthouse, and have so many fucking kids with her she’d never not be pregnant. But that’s not what she wants. She wants to finish schooling, find a job in her field, and work.”
“She only says that because she wants you to believe she has no interest in your money. You don’t grow up like she does and not see dollar signs when someone like you comes along.”
“If you ever talk about Hannah like that again, I will cut you out of my life. She wants me, for me, not our money or our name.” I turned to walk away from my mom.
“How do you know that?” My mother asked and I spun back to her.
“Because I had to work damn hard to convince her to be with me in the first place, no gold digger fights that hard against a relationship if all they want is money. She’s nothing like you.”
My mom went quiet and looked at me wide-eyed. I turned away from her and got into my Jeep and slammed the door. Then I sped out of our driveway. I was angry as hell at my mother for what she was implying about my Hannah.
Hannah had no interest in trapping me. She had no interest in my money. She wanted to be with me because of who I was without the money. My biggest issue was my mother knew exactly who I was seeing. I wouldn’t put it past her to try to scare Hannah away. After our weekend I’d have to warn Hannah.
Hannah was everything to me and I wasn’t lying when I said I would absolutely make Hannah a kept woman. I wasn’t lying when I said I would run off to Vegas to marry Hannah. I wasn’t lying when I said I would knock her up with all of the babies we want. She was everything to me and if she’d let me I would do it all.
I wanted her, only her, forever her.
Pulling into Hannah’s driveway, she came out of the house with a backpack. I jumped out of the Jeep, leaving it running, and picked her up in a hug.
“What’s going on?” She laughed, wrapping her legs around me.
“I’m excited to be with you and no one else all weekend,” I avoided telling her about my argument with my mom not wanting to ruin this weekend. Hannah kissed me softly like she knew I was avoiding something, but she’d let me avoid it for now.
“How private is the site?” She asked with a grin and a quick eyebrow raise.
“It’s a cabin, so very private.” I kissed her and she giggled while she ran her fingers through my hair.
“Take me away Liam,” she whispered and I smiled, placing her down and grabbing her backpack to put it in the backseat.
I was picking Hannah up before her dad got home from work. I really didn’t want that meeting to be awkward. I also planned on pushing it off as long as possible. Only because I wanted to push off her meeting my own parents. Especially after what my mom said to me today.
A couple of hours later, we arrived at the cabin and Hannah’s jaw dropped open. Trees surrounded the property, offering shade from the summer sun. A hammock hung under the covered porch. Large windows on both the first and second floors let in a lot of light. I pulled up, parked near the front, and we both got out of the Jeep.
