It was a great time to make my escape. If I stayed here, this was going to turn into something more than a night of talking. I kept seeing the little tells that he wanted more from me than even a one-night stand. I really couldn’t afford a messy breakup when it was time to go back to Pittsburgh.
Nope, it was time to leave. I stood and ducked out of sight, following the fence towards the front. I booked a ride share as I walked towards the front of the house. My friends drove and I didn’t want to stop them from having a good time because I was trying to avoid Liam. I’d have the driver meet me at the corner of the street instead of outside the house, hoping I could avoid Liam finding me.
I texted Ashley quickly and informed her I was catching an ride share home and to have fun. I hadn’t seen her since Bas followed her and I had a feeling I’d lost my bet with him.
Ten minutes later, I checked the app to see how close a driver was only to find out they were still about ten minutes out. I was really hoping that Liam was distracted and wasn’t trying to find me, this needed to be a clean getaway. On Friday nights, most of the drivers were near the bars, so unless they were in the area to drop someone off it would take awhile to catch a ride out of a neighborhood.
I heard footsteps running up behind me and I closed my eyes, swearing internally. Almost instinctively, I knew who it was and I didn’t really want to have this confrontation. I turned around as Liam got close.
“You didn’t stay,” he remarked.
“I’m sorry. I really should get going, I have work in the morning,” I apologized.
“It’s early, stay. I’ll make sure you get a guest room.” Liam stepped close and put his hands on my hips. Immediately, my body reacted to him being so close to me. Heat flooded me and my heart pounded in my chest. As much as I tried to ignore this reaction, I had a feeling Liam sensed it because he squeezed my hips and smiled at me.
“Look, it was nice catching up, but it’s best if we go our separate ways.”
“That’s bullshit,” he whispered.
“You promised to let me go.”
“You said you’d give me the night.” He pulled me closer.
My ride pulled up and the front window rolled down, “Hannah?”
“Yep,” I confirmed and stepped back from Liam who looked at the driver with narrowed eyes.
Opening the back door, I climbed in and Liam grabbed the door and stood with it open. He looked back at the party, then back to me.
“Fuck it, scoot over,” he demanded and moved to get in the car.
“Excuse me?” As he entered the car, I was forced to scoot across the back seat.
“I want to make sure you get home safe.”
“You can’t come home with me.”
“Should I wait?” The driver hesitated.
“Yes,” I started, but Liam interrupted me.
“Drive!” Liam demanded.
“Yes Liam,” the driver followed Liam’s demand and shifted the car into drive. I rolled my eyes at the driver, who obviously knew who Liam was, and obeyed his commands, regardless of what my request was. People in this town were pathetic when it came to the rich who lived here.
“Are you serious right now?” I whisper-yelled at Liam.
“Yes, the night isn’t over and I refuse to let you walk away before I’ve had enough time to convince you to hang out with me more.”
I sat back and shook my head. How the hell did this happen? He was about to have a wake up call when we got to my neighborhood and my house. If my dad was still awake I was not looking forward to explaining why Liam came home with me.
We were quiet for the first ten minutes of the ride to my house. At this time of night it wouldn’t take long to arrive. What was going to happen when we got there? Was he expecting I’d invite him in? This had to be some god awful joke or prank because there was no way in hell Liam Teresi was actually interested in me.
“You are unbelievable,” I hissed.
“I know.” Liam flashed me a cocky grin.
“You can’t make someone be interested in you.”
