“Do you love her?”
“I do. She’s so great with Lola and with me. I can’t imagine life without Delilah in it.”
“I agree with that. You have a mess to deal with in there.”
“Tell me about it. This wasn’t the plan.”
We walk into the house and find a scene happening in front of us. Delilah is crying as Andrew sits close to her and my mom watches as if she’s about to interrupt at any time. Lola is nowhere in sight, and I assume Brynn has her somewhere else in the house.
“This is what you want, Del?”
I step forward enough to hear their conversation.
“Yes. I love him, Drew. I’m not giving up on my life or my plans. He’s just going to be a part of it. You know Miles and how good he is. Look at him with Lola.”
She wipes her eyes and I move beside her, wrapping an arm around Delilah’s waist. Andrew glares at me and I tighten my hold.
“I can’t believe this, Miles. You promised nothing would happen when she got the job. I was doing you a favor.”
He’s still angry, but I can see the force of it fading away.
“We tried, Drew. I promise.”
Delilah’s voice is soft but sincere, and I smile at her.
“Are you okay?”
I lean in when there’s a break in the conversation, kissing her hair. Andrew is there, but I don’t care.
“I was dizzy when I stood up and your mom offered to come back here with me. It wasn’t anything serious.”
She looks at me and our eyes lock as I feel my body relax.
“Great game tonight. Both of you.”
Delilah looks at Andrew and he nods his thanks before standing.
“I am going to take some time to let this sink in.”
He runs a hand through his damp hair and looks at us. Shaking his head, Andrew leaves the living room.
“Your mom knows. She guessed.”
“How?”
I stare at my mom as she chuckles, joined by my father on the other couch.
“She’s glowing, for one. I’ve seen that she tires easily and the way you two look at each other made it all add up. I have kids, you know.”
“She is glowing. It’s beautiful.”
Delilah blushes and looks down.
“We should have told you before, but things were complicated. We’re going in for the big ultrasound in two weeks.”
“Can I come?”
Mom and Brynn speak at the same time, and I look at Delilah with an arched brow. Where did my sister come from?
