“Talk soon, Gorgeous.” Quinn hung up with a grin. “That takes care of that.”
“You sure you want that on display?” Tenn asked.
“I don't care. It's just me in a hospital bed, looking like a corpse with a tube in my nose. It could be traumatizing to other people, but we'll set it up so that no one else can see.” She turned her attention back to the messages.
She's proud of her recovery, as she should be. She overcame a lot.
Whatever. Are you going?
If I want to stay in the marriage, I'd better.
I guess I'll go too.
We could just leave.
Viki, I told you I was not going to leave her. You agreed to this.
Let Tenn look after her if she relapses. You're not responsible for her choices.
I won't be the reason for it. I told you when I tried to leave before she overdosed.
She's holding you hostage!
Since she recovered, she's been great. I'm just not in love with her anymore. I don't see a point in blowing up my life or yours if we can have both.
Tenn wants a divorce.
Then fix it
He won't let me! Don't you think it's weird that they both kicked us out to the spare rooms on the same night?
It's a coincidence. We need to cool things off and focus on fixing the issues.
Are you trying to break up with me?
No! No, baby, I'm just saying we need to get things back to normal.
Whatever.
Meet me at our spot. I want to see your gorgeous body riding me.
Quinn gave up reading as the conversation devolved into sexting and Joel ordering Viki to meet him. “I'm done. I'm just going to screenshot it and send it to Deedee.”
“Yeah, I'm with you.” Tenn nodded, looking like he had stepped in something nasty. “Ten days, Quinn.” He put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close to him. “Ten days, and it'll be over.”
“I have to give Joel thirty days to vacate the house.” Quinn leaned into him. “I can’t believe he said I was a drug addict. I hate him.”
“So do I.” He rubbed her back soothingly. “He’s going to regret everything, don’t worry.”
“You wouldn't be interested in moving the vacation up to June first, would you? Quill, Bishop, and Rilla could check on the houses while we're gone.” She watched as he looked surprised, then like he was holding back his excitement.
“Does that mean you'll come with me?”
“A thirty-day vacation a month after meeting each other? Why not? What could go wrong?”
Chapter Seventeen: Chess Pieces
Quinn arrived back home shortly before dinner time. She could have happily spent the rest of the evening with Tenn, but Quill had texted and asked her to meet him for supper, so she wanted to change and freshen up before he came to pick her up. She showered, put on a yellow sundress, short jean jacket, and white tennis shoes, braided her hair, pulled a few tendrils loose to frame her face, and did a light makeup job. She was scrolling on her phone in the living room while she waited when Joel walked in.
