“You escaped once. I’m not letting that happen again,” Lev growls, grabbing me.
“Hey!” Dimitri shouts. He tries punching Lev, but another man gets out of the car and attacks Dimitri. The two of them get into a fight while Lev drags me to the car.
“What are you doing?” I scream.
“Damien took you from me, and I want to hurt Damien, so I’m taking you back.” He shoves me into the car and hops in beside me. His other man is still fighting Dimitri.
“Mila!” Dimitri shouts. He gets a good punch into the other man’s face and lunges for the car.
But Lev pulls out his gun and points it at Dimitri, making Dimitri skid to a halt. “Drive,” Lev snarls at the man behind the wheel. Leaving his own man behind, Lev’s driver takes off.
Me with him.
I turn to Lev. “What are you doing? Why can’t you just leave me alone?”
“Because you mean something to Damien, and I need to hurt him. I saw an opportunity, so I took it.”
“You just happened to be passing by?”
Lev’s smile is dangerous. “You could say that.”
A shiver courses through me. He was planning this. “Why?”
“Because Damien humiliated me in front of my men. I need to make him pay.” He runs his finger down my face, and I jerk back. “And you’re going to help me with that.”
All I feel is fear and nothing else. Despite the promise of a husband, I still wasn’t safe.
And I’m not sure when I ever will be.
DAMIEN
I see the commotion, but I’m not fast enough to reach Mila before she’s taken. But I do see Dimitri and another man lying on the street, entangled in a fight.
“Damn it,” I growl, pulling Dimitri away from the other man. “Who took her? Where is Mila?”
“Why should I tell you?” Dimitri spits in my face.
I step back and punch him. As he’s groaning in pain, I turn to the other man and freeze. I know this man. He works for Lev. “Why does Lev want Mila?” I ask. I kick the man in the stomach, making him cry out. “Where is Lev taking her?”
“He wanted to get back at you,” the man says, chuckling. “He hates you, Damien. You should have known he was coming for you.”
Oh, I knew Lev was coming.
I just didn’t know he was coming for Mila. Why does he want Mila? We’re not married. We’ve only known each other for a short time.
But I know deep down why. It’s because, despite the short time I’ve spent with her, I care for Mila, and Lev knows this.
He wants to hurt me, and he’s found a weakness of mine he can exploit.
Mila is starting to become my weakness.

MILA
Lev takes me somewhere new. We drive for hours before we pull up to a grand house in the middle of the woods. Because all the street signs are in Russian, I have no idea where I am. I’m not sure I’m even in Moscow anymore.
