I gasp, holding onto him tightly. Damien slowly removes his hand from between my legs. He kisses me once more before stepping back.
“Wow,” is all I can say.
The intensity in his eyes says it all. “I’m going to have a hard time letting you go.”
“Would you marry me?”
He looks me over before turning away. “I don’t believe in it. I’m not a commitment type of man.”
“I figured,” I whisper. “You can’t give me what I want, Damien. What I need. I need protection.”
“I’ve protected you three times now.”
“I know.”
“Dimitri can’t do that.”
“This isn’t about Dimitri. It’s about the fact that I want to stay here with you. But you won’t marry me, and I need a husband. I want a husband.”
He sighs deeply. “You need to go back home.”
“I think so.”
“Fine. But once Mikhail shows up, I’m going to make sure he knows to keep you safe. That Dimitri is incapable of it. But you better not marry another man. I think I’d be too jealous.”
“Then marry me yourself.”
He smirks. “You can use my phone.” He hands it over, effectively ending our conversation.
I look at Damien for a beat longer. This man will be my downfall.
So, I need to get out now before I’m in too deep.
With a deep breath, I call Mikhail, knowing everything in my life is about to change.
Mikhail shows up at Damien’s house only a half hour later. With him is Dimitri.
“What is he doing here?” Damien asks, nodding at Dimitri.
A muscle twitches in Mikhail’s jaw. “He’s Mila’s fiancé.”
“Some fiancé. He didn’t save Mila from getting kidnapped. I did.”
“Who’s to say you weren’t a part of the kidnapping just to make yourself look better?” Dimitri asks.
Damien doesn’t respond. He only smiles darkly.
I step between the men before they kill each other. “I’m ready to go home.” I meet Mikhail’s eyes. “Just keep me safe this time. Please.”
“I promise,” he responds softly. Mikhail is not a soft man, so it’s surprising when he shows some level of gentleness.
“Let’s get you home,” Dimitri says, grabbing my arm.
“Don’t touch her,” Damien growls.
“You don’t have a say.” Dimitri pulls me closer to him. “Come on, Mila.”
I turn to Damien. “It’s all right.” I nod at Mikhail to go. He doesn’t give Damien another look before walking away.
