They’re lucky neither of us shot any of them. It got close

Cormac

Marvelous

Me

I know that tone. Don’t.

I can hear my brother’s voice in my head. I know what that word means. He’s been using it since we learned it in third grade. It was around the time we learned sarcasm.

Cormac

Fine. It’s that serious?

Me

Very

Cormac

Good you deserve it

Me

Thanks I’ll let you know when I get there

Cormac

Let me know if you need anything

Me

Will do thanks

I pull up Dillan’s number.

I need a detail for Tiera. Things didn’t go well. They’re all in one piece but barely.

I wait for a response, but it doesn’t come immediately. He could be busy, or he could be arranging things before he confirms. I don’t know. I have to be patient. But that’s the last thing I am with getting protection in place for Tiera.

I don’t want to shift too much since Tiera’s still resting against me. But she knows I was texting someone while holding her. I hope she doesn’t think I’m being rude.

“Cailín, I have to go out for a bit.” Whatever a bit means.

“I’ll be okay, Daddy. Call me, text me, or come by whenever you get a chance.”

“I know you’re being understanding, and I appreciate it. But you are not giving me wiggle room to back out of what I said earlier or because I don’t want to be with you. I told you, I’ll put you first whenever I can. When I’m done with this, you’ll go back to being first. I was serious about the days together. I still want that if you’re okay with it.”

“I hope this doesn’t take long. The five days don’t start until our first night together.” She leans back enough to look up at me.

“They definitely don’t count until we’re together. I just texted Dillan because I want a safety detail for you. I’d arrange for one anyway because you’re my girlfriend, but after today, I won’t consider going without.”

“Your men are the best chance I have for being safe after what we learned today. I’m not as worried about Gareth and his twats, but whoever this is has targeted me for years.”
