The word makes shivers race over my skin. I shake my head, totally overwhelmed by what’s happening.
“Jasper… are we fated mates?”
The smile that spreads across his face, and the joy that I feel, confirms it.
“How?” I whisper.
“I told you that you were mine,” he says.
My brother’s in the room. Given his reaction last time, I know that I shouldn’t do what I’m going to do now.
Screw it. I tug Jasper’s lips down to mine, and I kiss him.
Jasper’s my mate. My fated mate.
Everything in me feels how right this is. Jasper and I were always meant to be together. I just happened to figure it out before he did.
When we pull back, I hesitate, not wanting to end the kiss.
Jasper smiles. “I know how you feel.”
I smile back. “That’s going to take a little getting used to.”
“I like it.”
I roll my eyes. “Of course you do. Nosy. First you go through my boxes, and now you go through my mind?”
“I can’t read your mind, Amara. I can just sense how you feel,” he whispers.
Still. Fated mates.
I know that there’s been a few instances of it lately. In this pack alone, people seem to be popping up into fated mate pairs left and right. I never thought I’d be lucky enough to be one of them. But I guess I am.
“I’m happy it’s you,” I say to Jasper.
“Same,” he murmurs. “I love you, Amara.”
“I love you too.”
We pull back, and I look over at Nolan, who is still shirtless, with some sweatpants that he pulled on clearly post-shift. “Are you going to freak out again?”
Nolan sighs. “Shit. Amara. I’m so fucking sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“But you did mean to hurt Jasper?”
He wrinkles his nose. “Well, yeah. I mean. What was I supposed to think? I walk in on my best friend, who has pretty much flat out said that he’s never going to settle down, making out with my little sister, who just got over a really hard breakup?—”
“Just to clarify, I broke up with every single one of those losers because they weren’t him,” I say, jabbing my thumb at Jasper.
He chuckles, and I shoot him a smile.
Nolan sighs again. “Yeah. Well. I think that I just… I mean, when he said you two slept together, I… freaked out.”
“No. You think?”
Jasper coughs, trying to cover up a laugh, and Nolan frowns. “Sarcasm, Amara? Right now? Really?”
“I’m not the one who couldn’t handle his sister kissing a dude.”
