“Oh my god, ladies and gentlemen, she actually knows.” Olive adjusted the plant and when she turned back Stella was right behind her.

“I’m sorry…” Her mouth rounded in an O. “Hey.” She rested a hand on Olive’s hip. If it moved a little it would cross the boundary into ass territory.

Olive stifled the urge to shimmy the hand a few inches lower, and she lifted her chin to face Stella. “Hey.” She wet her lips. “I was just teasing.”

“I know. You know what?”

“What?”

“You’re going to have fun tonight.”

“Am I?” Olive smiled.

“I’m going to make it my mission.”

“Well, I’ve heard that when Stella Soriano makes something her mission, nothing can get in her way.”

“Heard that, did you?”

“Sure did.”

Stella’s lips parted.

Olive’s thighs tensed, rubbing together as lava seemed to boil her insides.

They were inches away from another kiss.

Lilacs and vanilla. And sparkly brown eyes.

Stella turned and went to the sink. “They said at the store to water the plant once after you got it home and then weekly in the winter.”

“Oh, okay. Thank you for making sure you got care instructions. I should probably name him.”

“You name your plants?” Stella arched an elegant eyebrow.

“It’s not weird. Plants have personality. See that fiddle-leaf fig over there? Total diva. Her name’s Celine.”

Stella erupted in laughter. “As in Dion?”

“The pothos is totally chill. His name is Dan.”

“Dan?”

“Sure. Seemed right at the time.”

“You think I’m a nerd. You’re a complete dork too.”

“Birds of a feather.” Olive checked her watch. “We better go.”

“Oh yeah, do you want me to go down and get the car? I know you don’t wear heels much.” She gestured to Olive’s shoes. “I—uh, you look good in heels though.”

The corner of Olive’s mouth upturned. “I can handle a few blocks.”

“That dress is really amazing. You look… stunning.”

So yeah, maybe Derek was right about the dress.
