Alright, fine, I would give her that.
She took a deep breath and turned to sit on the bed, her hands flopping into her lap. It was instinct to lunge forward, kneel before her, and take her hands into mine. Her breath caught as I ground my teeth. My attention went to where her restraints had cut into her wrists, and a feral groan came out.
“I’m fine. A few scrapes and bruises. It’ll be nothing in a few days.”
“If Maloy hadn’t already killed him, I’d do it myself.” My voice sounded more lethal than I’d heard it in a long time.
She tipped her head back and laughed. “It wasn’t even Jacob who did this. It was Ivanov’s guys. However, Maloy took care of them back in Lombard, too.”
“Lombard?” My heart stopped when I realized how close my angel had been to me. “You’ve been in Lombard this whole time?”
She nodded slowly, and tears lined her eyes. “One day I slipped away from my guards at the mall and met up with Maloy. While we were talking, he happened to mention your name, and I spent a half hour trying to get as much information as I could out of him. That man is a hard one to crack. He told me that if I could get some more information on Ivanov’s guys, then he would talk to you.”
“He didn’t say anything,” I ground out through my teeth. How could Maloy keep her from me? I was going to kill him.
“Don’t be mad at him. Maloy didn’t know until today who you and I were. After I demanded to see you, I explained it to him in the car on the way here. I think that man actually felt bad for not saying anything. Maloy apologized a few times while we were waiting in Don Dallas’s office.”
Slowly, I lifted my hand and cupped her cheek. She leaned into it, and I met her gaze, swallowing hard, still in awe she was here before me. Her hands trailed up my chest, the heat of them making my shoulders drop as tension slowly leached from them.
“My shadow.” Her voice cracked at the end of her words.
I wasn’t sure who moved first, but a moment later, her lips were on mine, and it was like I was home again. My tongue slipped into her mouth as she opened for me. Moaning as my free hand wrapped around her waist, pulling her up, I repositioned us on the bed. Her legs fell open so that I could lie between them, but I hovered over her. I was so hard, it ached like the devil, but I didn’t want to hump her like a dog in heat.
Her warmth seeped through my skin, heating my entire body, and her embrace enclosed my heart in the brightness of her essence. I could feel myself coming out of the darkness, not even realizing how far into the shadows I had made my home. Her shadow. I had never been far from the angel under me.
Flashes of her lying under that rubble as I fought against the four men who dragged me out of there, her mouthing that she loved me and leaning her head back in acceptance went through my head. I swore I could feel my heart breaking all over again as the breath froze in my lungs, and I pulled back. Resting on my forearms, I leaned my forehead against hers. “I still can’t believe you are here. Am I dead? Is this my afterlife?”
“If it is, I’m honored to be who you wanted to spend it with.” Wrapping her leg around my hip, she whispered, “But no, we aren’t dead.”
I swallowed against the pain of all the past loss, feeling the tears in my throat and in my eyes before whispering, “Promise?”
My angel stared at me, tightening the hold she had on my arms. “Until my very last ounce of existence leaves my body, I promise. I am here and never want to leave your side again. I realize that we have to relearn each other, but . . .” Her eyes searched mine. “Please, don’t make me spend another day without you.”
“Angel, my heart has always been yours.” I kissed her, rolling us so she was now lying on top of me.
This glorious woman sat back and untied the robe, letting it fall from her shoulders. I took in every inch of her newly exposed skin, but when I got to her breasts, I smiled at the new additions as I reached up and took the little pieces of metal sticking out from her nipples between my fingers and twisted them. “These are new.”

Tossing the robe to the floor, she nodded. “They are. I also got something else.” She took my hand and lowered it between her legs. When I felt something smooth and metallic, I blinked at her once before flipping her onto her back down on the bed and spreading her legs wide. There, running vertically, right through the hood above her clit was a barbell. Slowly, I lifted my gaze to hers, and she gave me a subtle nod.
Licking my lips, I held my gaze with hers as I ran my tongue from her ass to that piercing, circling my tongue around it and watching as her cheeks bloomed with heat. Her eyes filled with lust as she sucked in her bottom lip. Not holding back, I dove into her, my tongue re-exploring each and every inch of her. I groaned in delight as her wet heat coated my tongue and face. No one had tasted as heavenly as she did.
“Shadow . . .” Her head tipped back as one of her hands ran along the top of my head. Her grip tightened, and her hips moved when I slipped two fingers into her, rubbing them against her G-spot. Sucking and flicking on her clit, I used that piercing to my advantage as she moaned and rubbed herself all over my face.
Leaning back, I rubbed my fingers against her clit, loving how her hips moved with me, chasing her pleasure.
“Please . . .”
“Please what, my angel? Have you forgotten how to use your words?” Her head shook back and forth as my fingers worked in quick, short movements. I could feel her thigh muscles twitch against me. “Your words.”
“Please let me cum, Shadow. I need you to make me cum.”
Smiling, I lowered my head and gave her what she wanted, licking, sucking, and nipping, everything short of fucking her into the mattress. Angel rode my face and used her hands to press my head down against her. Just when she was about to cum, I stopped moving, and she whimpered loudly.
