Tyler cursed and sat down on the bench. The rest of the team had discreetly left the locker room.

“It’s complicated.”

“Why? She seems to like you for some absurd reason. What’s complicated?”

“She’s too good for me. I’m not the right man for her. I like her, but it’s better that we just stay friends.”

Mackie closed his locker and leaned against it. “This got something to do with your past?”

Tyler didn’t respond. Like Dex, Mackie only knew a few details. But what was it with everyone bringing up his past?

“Look, man. You don’t have to tell me shit. But I am here if you want to talk.”

“Thanks.” Tyler stood. “I appreciate the offer but I'm good.”

“Mira is one in a million. Hold on to her with both hands. You’d be crazy to let that go.” Mackie grabbed his kit and headed out. Tyler rested his head back on the locker. If only it were that simple.

Chapter 8

Dex called Sam back from the privacy of his office.

“I’m guessing you want to check my head is straight for this op?” Dex said with a small smile on his face.

“I know how personal Reborn is to you and the team.”

“They made it personal a long time ago. Nothing’s changed.”

“So, I have nothing to worry about with you?”

“The only person that should be worried is Dante Gomez, because we’re about to nail his ass.”

“That’s what I like to hear. Now, what’s up with Tyler?”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m not blind, Dawson. He’s not himself. Is there anything I need to know?”
