Chapter 17

Mira closed her eyes, relieved to be on her own. While she loved her parents, their constant fussing was suffocating, and she needed a little time alone.

After they’d brought her out of the coma, she regained consciousness within a couple of hours, surprising everyone. Pain medication was keeping her comfortable, but her surgeon had pointed out she was lucky to be alive. Sam and Tyler had saved her life.

Tyler. Where the hell was he? Waking up and not finding Tyler there had been devastating. After everything that happened, he’d promised to be there, told her they would talk. But he wasn’t. That hurt more than anything else.

Kelly had texted, but she had been unable to visit or call. She hadn’t said anything about Tyler, so Mira assumed the teams must be in play. Otherwise, she knew someone would have been here from Onyx.

She looked up as the door opened. For the past two days, every time the door opened, she prayed Tyler would stroll through, that big grin and cute dimples lighting up his face. But each time, it was just another nurse checking on her. At least her folks weren't back yet. It was difficult trying to keep a brave smile on her face all the time. She hadn’t mentioned Tyler to them. They knew nothing about the team, and that was how it needed to stay. They believed she worked as a security analyst for the government. It was somewhat true.

“How are you feeling, Mira?” the nurse asked politely.

“Pretty good considering.” Mira smiled weakly at her.

“You’re doing remarkably well. It seems a request has come in to transport you to Westside as soon as you are stable enough. No reason why that can’t happen today.”

Mira’s smile widened. “Really? That will be great.” Back on Coronado, with people she knew. Maybe Kelly would be able to visit, and she could find out what the hell was going on.

“Desperate to leave us?” The nurse teased as she took her blood pressure.

“No. Sorry. You have all been wonderful. Coronado is home. The rest of my family is there.” Her team family.

“I understand. And it’s good to have family close by at times like this.” The nurse finished up. “Everything looks good. I’ll let you know when the transport is here.”

“Thank you.”

The nurse left and Mira picked up her phone. She'd tried to text Tyler several times, but none of the messages had been delivered, meaning it was turned off. Raven must have spun up, perhaps something to do with the bombing. It was the only explanation. Tyler would have been here at her bedside otherwise. Wouldn’t he?

She texted Kelly.

Mira: Hey Kelly, I’m being moved to Westside today.

She didn't have to wait long for a reply.

Kelly: I know. Sam arranged it. He’s also arranging for your folks to be brought here too, to another hotel.

Mira: Tell him I said thank you.

Kelly: I will. It’s so good to be talking to you, well texting anyway. You had us worried.

Mira: Will I get to see you soon? I gather you are all working?

Kelly: Yes. But once you’re at Westside I will come and see you. I promise.

Mira: Good. I need to know what’s going on.
