“What the hell is going on in there?” a male voice asks from the other side of the door, trying to open it.

I look at the blue-eyed man holding me. “There are two of you here?”

He grins as he sticks his gun back inside his pocket. “Embarrassed?”

Embarrassment is an understatement. That guy heard what the two of us were just doing, and I don’t know if that embarrasses me more, or the fact that I just let a total stranger give me one of the most mind-blowing orgasms I’ve ever had. Not to mention, I just did all of that while my grandmother lay sleeping just feet away.

I push against the masked man, and this time, he lets me down. I land softly on my feet and go to stand by Grandma.

The man stalks over to the door and opens it. His friend’s eyes immediately focus on me, and my face flushes when I realize I’m standing here in nothing but an oversized t-shirt and shame.

“Get out—both of you,” I snap when they won’t stop staring at me.

“No problem,” the other guy says tersely, looking at his friend, but his blue eyes are on me like a predator watching its prey.

He cocks his head and goes to take another step toward me, but he changes his mind and remains where he’s standing.

“I’m not ready to leave yet,” he says in a low purr.

“Bro,” the other man says, “we need to go. Now.”

I wrap my arms around myself and squeeze tightly, feeling cold now that I don’t have the warmth of the stranger’s body against me.

“Please,” I whisper.

He starts to take another step toward me, but there must be something in my face that makes him falter, because he turns and leaves the room after his friend, disappearing into the darkness.

Just before he descends the stairs, I faintly hear him say, “I’ll be back for you, butterfly.”

CHAPTER 5

HIM

“What the hell, man?” Gavin slips off his ski mask and smacks the dashboard of my truck with it.

I snatch it from him and toss it in the backseat. “Easy.”

“No, fuck that,” he snaps. I can feel his eyes boring a hole into the side of my face as I speed away from the house. “What the actual hell were you thinking leaving your DNA all over her? Now she has plenty of evidence to go to the police with!”

Finding an empty parking lot, I pull over and turn to face him. “First of all, I don’t need you fucking chastising me. Second of all, we didn’t have sex.”

“It sure as hell sounded like it,” he grumbles.

I roll my eyes. “Stop being such a baby. We’ll be fine. She won’t go to the police.”

Gavin looks at me again, this time with eyes full of dark promise. “She better not. You fucked up my night, and now I don’t have what I need to—” He cuts himself off.

I sigh and pull out my wallet. “How much do you need?”

“Seven hundred.”

“What do you need seven hundred dollars for?” I ask in surprise, but he gives me a look that indicates he refuses to answer.

I huff. “Fine, but I don’t have that kind of cash.”

“ATMs are open twenty-four hours,” he says matter-of-factly.

My eyes roll instinctively as I pull out of the parking lot.
