“Come on, walk me to the door.” He led her to the door.
At the door, her nerves kicked in as she wondered if he’d kiss her goodnight. He grinned at her.
“You’re so easy to read,” he joked.
Parker gasped as she slapped her hand at him, but laughed when he grabbed her hand and pulled her close to him.
“Maybe just a little one?”
“Yes.”
Maverick slid his hand around her nape, lowered his head, and lightly touched her lips with his and a shock ran through her. He raised his head and stared into her eyes.
“Again,” she whispered.
Lowering his head again, he pressed his lips to hers and kissed her deeply. She slid her arms around his neck and leaned into him. His hands moved to her hips as he tugged her closer. She moaned against his mouth. It had been way too long since she’d been kissed and held like this. You’ve never been held or kissed like this!
He slowly raised his lips and their eyes met and held, then a slow grin lifted his lips.
“I’m definitely looking forward to more of that.”
Parker laughed. “I am too.”
He kissed her forehead, opened the door, and touched the brim of his hat.
“I’ll talk to you soon. Sleep well, Parker.”
“I’m sure I will. You too.”
He huffed out a laugh. “Yeah, I don’t think so. Goodnight, darlin’.” He stepped out, and pulled the door closed.
Parker leaned back against the door, touched her lips, and grinned. She was looking forward to seeing him again.
Chapter Four
The following Saturday, Parker couldn’t stop looking at the clock. There was an hour before they closed and she was anxious to get home, change, and wait for Maverick. The one thing she wasn’t sure about was tonight. If they were spending tomorrow together too, did he expect her to spend the night with him?
“Men,” she muttered.
“Oh, boy, have I said that a lot since meeting Wes.” Shay laughed. “Are you okay?”
“I don’t know.” As Shay listened, Parker explained about her and Maverick getting together.
“He kind of just threw it out there and I don’t know how to take it.”
“Okay, did he mention picking you up Sunday?”
“No.”
“Did he mention you spending the night, like saying he had a spare bedroom?”
“No.”
“Men.” Shay shook her head, making Parker laugh.
“I suppose I can ask him.” She nibbled on her bottom lip.
“Just wait and see how it goes. If he asks where your overnight bag is, you’ll know.” Shay gasped. “Oh! Ask him what time he’ll pick you up Sunday.”
