Shy chuckles but says nothing.

“Why would he go to all this trouble to find her if they weren’t intimate?” I ask, dumbfounded.

Shy becomes serious. “They have a connection, but your sister had Dex. We protect our own. Your sister and her best friend, Violet, made their way into our ol’ ladies’ lives, and we care about them. We don’t like when bad things happen to our friends and we put them under our protection.”

Tears fill my eyes. My sister was right. These men would do anything for their women.

My voice cracks when I say, “It must be nice. I’ve been taking care of myself for twelve years. I’m always on the go and constantly watching my back.”

When Shy sees my tears, his face softens. “I promise you this. That man over there and anyone wearing a patch that says Wolfeman MC will protect you with their life. Once you meet my old lady…” He pauses to take a swig and chuckles. “Well, after she has a heart attack seeing you, she’ll welcome you into her little spin-it-girl gang.”

“Spin-it-girl gang?” I question with a smirk.

“Yes, that’s what we call them. They all work for Luc’s record label Spin It Inc. So they’re the spin it girls.”

I laugh but startle when Mac yells, “No.”

“Fuck,” Shy murmurs.

“What?” I say, getting up on instinct. I’m always on alert. Just in case something goes wrong.

Shy waves his hand for me to sit down, so I do.

“My brother here has been having some nightmares. I was hoping since we found you that they would stop, but it looks like he’s maybe having one now.”

“Nightmares about what?” I ask, not understanding.

“His dead sister and your sister have been visiting him nightly.”

Shocked, I ask, “Dead sister?”

Shy’s face saddens. “Yeah, that’s a story he’ll have to tell you. Let’s just say they’ve been telling him to find you.”

I shift back in disbelief. “Me? Why me?”

Shy shrugs. “I don’t know. But I do know one thing. That man will not let you out of his sight until we find your sister.”

Warmth fills me up. I’ve never been this looked after. I’ve always had to keep my distance from people so no one would find out who I truly am. For years after the incident, I didn’t even really speak. Through lots of therapy and time, I’ve finally come out of my shell. I have one friend, and besides having a one-night stand here or there, that’s all I have.

“I’ve never let anyone get close to me. I’ve always felt my sister gave up her life to protect me, so I needed to be good and not fuck it up. So, I threw myself into my job. I’ve known she’s hated her relationship with Dextor for years now. I’ve been telling her to leave him. That I would be fine, but she kept saying she didn’t see a way out until she met you guys.” I ramble, letting a few tears escape my eyes.

Shy reaches across the table, grabbing my arm. “Sin, everything is going to be okay. Once Snow finds out Raydene is missing and sees you, she’ll lose her shit. They all will. So, whether you want to be or not, you’re part of our family, and we’ll always protect you.”

His phone chimes.

Once he reads the text, he stands up. “Okay, I’ve got to go pick up Snow from Violet’s house.” He pauses. “Does Violet know you’re alive?”

I nod. “She knows I’m alive, but I’ve never met her. I’ve spoken to her on the phone before, but that’s it. But yes, she knows who I am and that I’m alive.”

He smiles. “Okay, I’ll check in with you both tomorrow. A couple of the boys are next door and will ride back to New York with you two. Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to everyone once we’re all back at the clubhouse.

I nod, smiling at him. “Thank you.”

Shy peers over to his friend, saying, “And if he starts thrashing around, try to wake him up. If you can’t, get one of the guys to help you.”

I look over at Mac, sleeping soundly, and nod. “I got it.”

And then I’m left alone with this enormous man I know nothing about. My mind starts racing with thoughts of my sister and him. Are they going to be together once we find her? Does he love her? Does she love him?
