"Lily," I began, my voice serious. "I meant what I said earlier. I want us to have a future together. I want to build something real with you."
She looked at me, her expression softening. "I want that too, Alex. But what does that look like for you? I mean, you’re Alex fucking Sinclair"
“You make that sound like a bad thing.” I laughed, earning an eye roll from her.
I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts. "It means being there for each other, supporting each other's dreams. I know you've put so much into the bookstore, and I want to help you make it everything you've ever wanted."
Her eyes widened slightly, surprise and gratitude mingling in her gaze. "Really? You’d do that?"
"Of course, Lily." I said, squeezing her hand. "Your dreams are important to me because you’re important to me. And I want to be a part of everything that makes you happy."
She leaned into me, her head resting on my shoulder. "That means a lot, Alex. And I want to support you, too. I know you have your own challenges with your family and the estate, but I’ll be by your side, no matter what."
I kissed the top of her head, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "I love you, Lily."
She looked up at me, her eyes shimmering. "I love you too, Alex. So much."
Hearing her say those words made me bubble with excitement, and the prospect of a future together with her made my lips unconsciously curl up in a smile. Colton didn’t know what the fuck he was talking about. The best decision I had ever made was falling in love with Lily, and I vowed to myself to cherish and protect that love every single day.

CHAPTER NINETEEN - EMBERS OF LOVE
Chapter & Verse was buzzing with excitement, a low hum of anticipation filling the air as Richard L. Ginsberg’s deep voice echoed through the room. I stood a few feet away from him, soaking in the sight of the crowd that had gathered. It was moments like these that made all the late nights and hard work worthwhile.
I glanced over at Alex, standing in the corner with a book in his hand, his eyes locked onto me with that charming smile that never failed to make my heart skip a beat. I smiled back, a wave of warmth and contentment washing over me.
Suddenly, the door chimes jingled, drawing my attention. I turned, expecting to see more people troop in, but instead, my eyes trained on Colton entering with a group of people carrying cardboard boxes. He caught my eye and gave me a sheepish smile as he set the boxes down. Curious, I walked over to him and peeked inside.
"More of Ginsberg’s books," Colton explained, straightening up. "The publisher sent them over."
"Perfect timing," I said, nodding approvingly. "Thanks, Colton."
He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "I really owe you for this, Lily. Partnering with Ginsberg has been the break my publishing company needed."
"You're welcome," I replied, my tone softening. "Family has to look out for each other, right?"
He sighed, his expression regretful. "I wish I had believed in your dream earlier. I’m sorry for being such a stubborn ass."
"It’s all good," I assured him, giving his arm a reassuring squeeze. "If anything, you should thank Alex. He’s the one who helped me understand that you were just trying to protect me in your own way."
Colton’s face darkened slightly as he must have clearly remembered the night of our big fight. "Where is he, anyway?"
I pointed to where Alex stood in the corner. Colton nodded and made his way over to him. I watched as they began to talk, their familiar brotherhood slowly rekindling. Seeing them like that warmed my heart. Despite everything, they were best friends, and it was good to see them getting along again.
As Richard finished his reading, the crowd erupted in applause. I smiled broadly, grateful for the successful event. People started to form a line at the counter, eager to buy a copy of Richard's book. I made my way over, ready to help.
Just as I reached the counter, Alex appeared by my side. He planted a quick kiss on my forehead. "Richard wants to talk to you," he said. "I'll handle the customers."
"Thank you," I said, kissing him on the cheek. "You're the best."
With a grateful smile, I headed toward the back of the store, where Richard was waiting. He stood near a shelf, perusing the titles thoughtfully.
"Mr. Ginsberg," I greeted him, feeling a bit nervous despite the familiarity.
"I believe I told you to call me Richard," he said, turning to face me with a kind smile. "Thank you for hosting this event, Lily. Your bookstore is quite charming."
"Thank you," I replied, feeling a flush of pride. "It means a lot coming from you."
