At first it was too much, until I pushed exactly where I needed it to go. The dark magic pushed back against my light, but it was no match for my magic and when my power completely took over, I was knocked back from the black magic’s hold as it broke.
I gasped as I was thrown back, but instead of hitting the floor or wall, I was pushed against a body who righted us before we fell. Ryder looked down at me and so did my other mates.
“Are you ok?” Soren asked, coming into my view.
He touched me as if he needed physical confirmation.
“I’m fine, but what are you doing here?” I looked over at Max, thankful he didn’t look any different or that I might have hurt him with my magic, but I felt it. That tendril of magic tying us together.
“You called for us,” Ryder said, as I walked to the bed to check on Max.
“What do you mean I called for you? I was healing him.” I looked over my shoulder at them standing close to each other.
“Blondie, we heard your call and when we got up here, you were whimpering,” Soren said.
“We thought you were struggling to heal him and when I touched you last time it felt like I had amplified your power,” Gray said, standing next to me. “So, we all touched you thinking you needed the extra power.”
“He had dark magic in him, it was eating away at him,” I said, sitting on the bed next to Max. “I don’t know what it was, but it felt like Laima’s magic.”
“Could it be a remnant of the spell she had on him to make him live as a cat?” Gray asked.
“Maybe,” I said, unsure.
“Sol?” Max croaked.
“I’m right here.” I grabbed his hand. “I’m here.”
“Safe?” he coughed.
“Yes, we are safe,” I said, brushing a hair off his face.
“Don’t be mad at them, Sol,” he said, his voice cracking on the last word.
I squeezed his hand because I didn’t want to make any promises.
The silence in the room was awful, it sat heavy between us, getting more and more uncomfortable the longer I didn’t acknowledge the elephant in the room. Taking a deep breath, I leaned over to kiss Max on the forehead.
Expecting that they would follow me, I walked downstairs to the comfortable looking chair in the main room. It was still dark outside, and I itched to see the sun over the ocean.
It was cooler in the house now that the windows had been opened, letting the cool breeze air out the stuffiness. I sat in the big comfortable chair leaving the guys to sit on the sofa. My nerves were making my stomach hurt as I felt their gazes on me.
“What happened, Sunshine?” Gray asked in a soft voice.
I almost laughed because I could feel the tension from Ryder and Soren, but it was Gray’s softness that cut through it.
“I’m going to ask this only once; was I a job?”
My gaze landed on them, and they looked equally confused.
“Blondie, what are you talking about?” Soren looked perplexed
“Did she hire you to take me?” My voice lacked the confidence I thought I had for fear they were going to lie or tell me that I was a job.
“Shit,” Ryder said under his breath.
My body froze.
“We had a request before we found you?—”
