“We have to make sure Liam’s face doesn’t get leaked to the media, Evan.”

If anything were to happen to Liam, I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself.

Evan

As much as I loved being able to spend alone time with Mia, it was necessary to get back home so we could talk to everyone about our relationship. Mia is worried about where that will leave her, but she doesn’t realize the decision I’m going to be making for myself.

Now that we are getting closer, and I’ve been spending more time with Liam, there’s only one thing for me to do to ensure both of their safety.

I squeeze Mia’s hand as the blacked out SUV comes to a stop in front of my home, which won’t be the case here in a few minutes – it’s only temporary, until the threat has been removed. The only reason I haven’t told Mia is because she’s going to think I’m not thinking clearly, but I’ve never been more clear on something than I am now.

When we walk through the door, she immediately drops my hand and allows me to lead us into the living room where the band, plus Carmen, are waiting for us with frowns on their faces.

Brent’s brow furrows when he looks at me. “Carmen said you had something important to discuss.”

“Right,” I say, then look over at Mia and give her a reassuring smile. When I look back at everyone, Carmen rolls her eyes just as I say, “Mia and I have been seeing each other.”

“I knew it,” Carmen grumbles, then narrows her eyes on Mia. “What were you thinking? You work for him!”

“Carmen.” She gives me her attention, face red with irritation, and I sigh heavily. “I don’t expect you to understand, but I’ll get into that next. There’s one more thing I should let you guys know.”

Everyone looks at me expectantly, and I clear my throat, grabbing hold of Mia’s hand so she doesn’t try rushing out of the room. “I’m backing out of the band, for now anyway, until things get settled with the stalker.”

Brent blinks in surprise, then shakes his head. “What? No, you can’t do that.”

“Evan,” Mia hisses next to me, trying her hardest to release her hand from my hold. “What the hell?”

I give her a small smile and shrug. “Sorry, darlin’, I knew you’d never let me go through with it if I told you.”

“You’re damn right, this is your life!”

“It is, which is why I’m not leaving it for good.” I look toward our audience, who’s darting their attention between the two of us, and know what I need to do next. “This is more than just me.”

“What does that even mean?” Donny asks, leaning forward with his elbows resting on his thighs.

“The thing is, I’ve met Mia before,” I say, giving Carmen an apologetic smile in response since neither I, nor Mia, told her that part. “We’ve got a son, Liam, and he could be in danger as well.”

Brent nods, his jaw clenching with my words, and I can tell he understands where my decision is coming from. If he and Julia had a child, he’d drop us without a second thought if it meant keeping his child safe.

“Evan,” Mia says next to me, tugging on my hand while shaking her head. “I can’t let you do that.”

“I’m doing it anyway.”

Carmen clears her throat, her head cocked to the side. “Why are you just now saying something?”

“Well, someone took our picture while we were away and I wanted you to find out from me before the image got released.”

“And this is what you want?” Carmen asks, her anger slowly dissipating with each passing second.

I sigh heavily and nod. “It’s the only thing I can do to make sure my son stays safe. We have no clue what this person will do next, and I’m hoping that if I announce my exit from the band that it will get them off my back.”

If this doesn’t work, I don’t know what else I’ll do.”

Brent rises from his place on the couch and comes over to me, a large hand coming down on my shoulder as he frowns. “I hate that you didn’t tell me about this, but I get it.”

“I’ll leave tonight with Mia, I’ve already got plans in place for us, and I’ll be back before you know it.”
