Page 36 of How We Fooled

“Fuck me,” he whispers more in amazement than to me as he places his forehead to mine.

I laugh out loud. “I just did.”

He lets out the same kind of laugh, then kisses me softly. “I don’t know what you’re doing to me, but please don’t stop.”

I wrap my arms and legs around him, not wanting him to leave my body just yet. “Never.”

We kiss until I feel him go limp, and he slides out of me, taking the condom off, then pulling me back into him and holding me until we both fall asleep again.

When we finally awaken, it’s with a grumble of my stomach.

He places his hand there. “Someone’s hungry.”

I feel his smile against my ear.

I chuckle in embarrassment. “Did that really wake you up?”

“Nah, I’ve been awake for a while.”

“And you didn’t wake me?”

“I could lie here all day like this.”

I hold his arm tighter against me as he kisses the back of my head.

“Let’s get you fed though.”

We both get dressed, then exit the tent for the first time, the morning dew feeling like a cool welcome to our day.

“Do you want me to start some coffee?”

“I’d love a cup.”

I sit on one of the chairs he brought and pull my legs up, wrapping myself in his sweatshirt that’s perfectly big enough for me to do so.

He hands me a mug full of the hot coffee, then goes straight back to the stove, where he begins to pull out other pans and food from the ice chest.

“What are you making?” I ask, surprised he’s getting so much out. I honestly thought we’d have something easy, like a bar or muffin for breakfast.

“I brought bacon and eggs,” he responds, not stopping what he’s doing.

I place my coffee down and stand up to walk to him, wrapping my arms around him from the back so he can continue cooking. “You’re just going to spoil me rotten, aren’t you?”

He looks over his shoulder at me with a huge grin. “That’s the plan.”

I hug him tighter, then let him get back to work while I sit in my chair, enjoying the quiet morning and my coffee.

We spend the day being lazy on the hammock and playing in the water. I don’t want it to end, but I know that we only planned on staying the one night, so it’s going to have to eventually.

As we pack up, he checks his phone with a sigh.

“What’s up?” I ask.

“My mom wants you to come for dinner tonight.” I sense the hesitation in his voice.

“Okay,” I respond easily.

“Okay? You don’t mind?”
