“No, not all the people who work there screw the customers.”
He looks at me like I shot his dog. “Uh . . . yeah, they do. Like I can go there, pay one of them to suck me off, and they will.”
Lovely.
“Oh.” I try to focus. I don’t bother telling him he has to be a member and pay for a room or whatever Scotlyn said to me the night before. I’m certain the entertainers don’t go around sucking guys off just because the guy wants her to. But what do I know?
Felix raves about the party I missed and says I need to come to the next one. I tell him I’ll probably be back in Texas or off to the next location by the time that happens, but still accept the invite. He doesn’t need to know I’m a prude. Even if I’m trying to change my ways, I’m still a prude. The sight of a woman scares the shit out of me.
That thought stays with me all day. At lunch, I head outside and walk until I’m deep into the parking lot, then look up the number for Society X. If the sight of a woman scares me so much, maybe the Dark Room is where I can finally be with one.
After a series of prompts, I’m finally connected with Christy. It takes me unaware as I was prepared to leave a voicemail. When she says hello, I almost hang up. I’m almost certain it’s the same Christy I met last night when I was with Scotlyn.
“Uh,” I clear my throat. “Hi. I’d like to inquire about a membership.”
“What’s your name, handsome?”
“Brent.” She called me handsome. “Brent Danson.”
“Hello, Brent. When would you like to come in and see me?” She asks. “I’ll need about an hour of your time. Not only will you get a tour, but you’ll need to fill out paperwork on site for a background check and submit to a urine and blood sample. We have an on-staff nurse to assist.”
“What’s that for?”
“The health and wellness of our clients is our top priority. Each time you enter a room, you’ll do so with confidence, knowing your partner is clean in every way that matters, and they’ll trust that you are, as well.”
“I’m not a felon,” I tell her.
She laughs. It’s throaty and honestly, sexy. “That’s good to know. We’re still going to check.”
This is what I want.
“When you’re in a room, no one knows who you are, right?”
“Specifically, in the Dark Room,” she explains. “In the other rooms, you can opt to have your partner see you or you them. If you know the person, speak to them, or ask their name, you’ll be kicked out of the club. We have very strict rules here at Society X and we don’t offer second chances.”
“Okay. I’ll come in. Do you have any appointments available today?”
“I do. Can you be here in fifteen minutes?”
“I’ll be there.”
I head back to the workspace and tell Felix I have a meeting off-site. He would never know if I do or not, so I’m not too worried about him finding out the truth. The walk to Society X is not only stressful, but quick. It gives me no time to talk myself out of what I’m about to do. Although, I suppose I can sign up, pay, and never use the service, but what’s the point?
After parking, I press the button on the door, per Christy’s instructions. She answers, wearing the same thing she had on last night. If she recognizes me, she doesn’t say anything. Introductions are made and I’m taken into a room with a bathroom where I submit my urine sample. A few seconds later, the nurse comes in and takes my blood. This entire part of the club looks nothing like the place I was in last night. In fact, it looks like a real estate office.
I fill out all the paperwork, then hand over my driver’s license and credit card even though my ass puckers at the price. It’s definitely cheaper being a virgin.
“Follow me,” she says.
“Um, are the rooms being used right now?”
She looks at the tablet in her hand. “Not all of them. There is a show going on in the Viewing Room. If you want, you can watch it.”
“Is that a requirement of the Viewing Room?”
Christy laughs. “No, not at all. Some people enjoy voyeurism, and they don’t care who watches.”
We turn down a hall where every door is closed. There are red and green lights above each one. We stop at a green one and she punches a code in.
