Page 6 of When Life Sucks!

Sitting on my bed, back against the headboard in my clubroom at the clubhouse, I can’t help but think I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life.

I didn’t hesitate when Bolt asked me to help him and the club get the information we needed to stop the drugs being distributed in town. My mind didn’t register the fact that I would be deep in with Melody behind Alice’s back.

Would I do it again? No, definitely not. But, I think it’s too late now to hope for a happy ever after with my love. Alice is my love of a lifetime, I’m sure, yet I let her down and myself. Maybe I’m fooling myself about Alice and my relationship because if I had thought she was my heart, I would not have considered doing what I have done.

Alice won’t answer the phone when I call, won’t answer my messages, and threatened to call the cops when I went to her door. I’m going to speak to Bolt and see if he can do anything more than he’s done already to fix this shit.

Soft tapping on the door has my gut clenching because it is a club whore or Melody, and neither I’m interested in at this time.

Climbing off the bed, I slam my feet into my boots and bend to tie them, ignoring the second tapping I hear. When will people learn to go away when a door isn’t answered?

Opening the door with force, why am I not surprised it is Melody. “What do you want?” I snarl.

“We need to talk. I have persuaded my mother to let me back into the house, and I’m sure in time she will love the baby no matter what. But you are the father and I’m more than happy to do a DNA test, although you know I was only with you during the last months.” Melody pushes past and into my room, perching on the end of the bed.

“Yeah, too right I want a DNA test done. It seems odd that you were on the shot, or so you said, and I used a condom. So, let’s be honest here, I don’t want you, and I don’t want the brat, but if it’s mine, I’ll do everything I can for him or her. You, on the other hand, need to stay the fuck away from Alice and her mother. If I find out you’ve made her life miserable because of what we have done, I’ll fucking bury you with or without that baby in your belly.” As I’ve been speaking I have stepped closer and closer to her, I can see I’m making her nervous, and so she should be because I couldn’t be any more serious.

“I will get Bones to get the DNA test done and then we’ll talk, but not until I know it’s mine. Now get out of my room and the clubhouse. You are not welcome here unless I tell you differently.”

“This is not all my fault. You chased me, not the other way around. I had no intention of going behind Alice’s back, or hurting her, but you made it sound like we were made for each other and now you couldn’t give a shit.” Melody nearly screeches.

Grasping her upper arm, I pull her out of my room, slam the door, and thank Teckie for putting coded locks on our doors. I change my code every month end as he suggested and I’ll do it again once this bitch leaves. I wouldn’t put anything past her.

Watching Melody storm away from the compound through my bedroom window has me chuckling, because I’m going to make her life fucking miserable. If that baby is mine I’m not averse to forcing her to sign over her rights, because I cannot see her being a decent parent.

Walking into the common room, Lethal signals me to walk over to the bar where he is lounging with a beer. Now why he gets one, none of us know, because he never drinks a single drop of it.

“We have the information about Melody. Prez wants to see you before you leave the clubhouse. Crocker was extinguished after giving us the information we needed. He’ll not be killing any more kids with his fucking shit.” Lethal has that look on his face right after he made a kill, so I know what he means by extinguishing, and that his body will never be found.

Slapping Lethal on the back, I head to Bolt’s office, knock on the door, and open it when I hear ‘Enter.’

Stepping inside the office, I see Gunner standing in front of the window. I give him a nod before taking the seat and relaxing back, while I wait for Bolt to lift his head from the paperwork he is reading.

Looking at me after placing the paperwork into the top drawer of his desk, Bolt speaks. “Crocker’s gone. We got all information we could from him. It seems your baby momma is the old lady of none other than Sting from Death Dealing Dogs MC.”

“Oh, fuck, what have we done?” I can’t help but ask. Now the three D’s, as they are known, are a 1% club that doesn’t seem to have dragged themselves out of the past. Getting mixed up with them was something we never wanted to do.

“Jax has contacted Beast, and he’s going to make his way here tomorrow. He, as the National President, will decide what happens going forward. I have spoken to Bones, and he’s already taken a sample from Melody two days ago, knowing we’d want to make sure the kid was yours. Go see him after you leave here and get yours done too, then we’ll know for sure.” Bolt looks tired, with dark rings under his eyes, and when he looks up at me again, I can see he isn’t finding any of this easy to deal with. “I’m sorry to have gotten you mixed up in all this, Sacks. You lost your old lady, and I put a target on your back. Once Sting finds out the bitch was messing around with you, he’s gonna want you dead.”

“May pay for you to go back with Beast to the National Chapter Clubhouse. It could be the way to keep you alive until this mess is cleared up,” Gunner states, still standing in front of the window but now with his arms folded across his chest.

“Call Melody back, tell her you feel bad or some shit. We need her as collateral in case the shit hits the fan.” Bolt has eyes and ears everywhere, and to know Melody left so quickly has to have someone inform him. “Lethal sent me a text,” Bolt grins.

Shit, can he read minds now? Shaking my head, I leave the office and make the call, but I don’t like it. Melody answers after only three rings, “What do you want, Sacks?”

“Look, I feel bad for what I said. That could be my kid you’re carrying. Come back to the clubhouse and we’ll talk in my room where it’s quiet.” I’m holding down the bile that I’m feeling at this conversation, but when she coos in return, I retch slightly.

“I’ll be back in around fifteen minutes, baby.”

I don’t wait for her to say more, but give Lethal a small nod that she’s coming back, and that fucker grins because he never could stand Melody. He also didn’t agree with the order to cheat on Alice, either.

Chapter 6

Alice

It is surprising what you learn about yourself when you decide on a different path from what you were walking. Instead of planning a future with Sacks, I’m now planning a future without him, and I’m okay with that, funnily enough.

Work today is going to be busy. I have a conference meeting with four staff members who are not consulting as they should be. I’ve spoken to Ronald, and he isn’t happy with their performance, but luckily for them, I picked up their slack and got the client the advice they needed.
