Page 5 of When Life Sucks!

“Oh,” I respond, leaning back in my seat and watching as Ronald gives me a gleeful look.

Blinking fast, holding his hand against his chest with a huge grin on his face, Ronald giggles. “Tell me all! What’s goin’ on?”

Sighing because I know that now he knows something is amiss. He is not going to stop prodding until he knows everything.

“Okay, this is the short version. I went to the clubhouse to see Sacks. When I got there he was in his room with Melody…”

Interrupting, Ronald sits forward in his seat, arms now folded across his chest and his chin jutting into the air. “Melody, your friend Melody? Is that who this Melody you’re speaking about is?”

“Well, if you are quiet, I will tell you,” I state, but keep my voice from snapping at him for the interruption. “Yes, my friend Melody. Well, ex-friend at this point. Okay, back to the tale. I heard them talking, and I pushed the door to his room open as she told him she was pregnant, and it was his.”

Jumping to his feet and squealing, I shoot back in my seat because, shit, he scared the crap out of me for a minute.

“I’m going to give her such a bitch slap when I see her. What a disgusting human being. All those years you have shared your lives for her to do this to you.” Ronald is pacing back and forth at this point, and I’m waiting for him to cool it so we can continue the conversation.

It is ten minutes later, and Ronald is still pacing and talking about death by drowning, hanging, and stabbing. But I know he’s never going to do any of that, as he faints at the sight of blood.

“Can I finish the story or what?” I ask, and he gives me a filthy look before retaking his seat. Then continues to look at me with a pinched expression on his face.

“I told him we were done, which he doesn’t agree with, but that’s his issue, not mine. I have returned the cut, so I’m no longer an old lady of his or a member of the club. The other old ladies sat in the common room, Ronald, and no one said anything to me when I walked in, or walked out. That’s what I got from the so-called MC family.”

“Oh, you are my family, so don’t fret that they are not. I am a good family member, and so is Jeffrey. We are here for you, babe, no matter what. I can slap anyone silly if needed.”

If it wouldn’t upset him, I would laugh because Ronald is the biggest softy you can imagine, he would never hurt a fly. He is right about being a good family member because he has become a part of mine since I started working here. My mother is not so happy with the fact he is married to a man, but it has not stopped my relationship whatsoever with Ronald and Jeffrey.

“Okay, so after trying several times, Bolt, the President spoke to me. It seems Sacks was asked to get cozy with Melody, sleep with her and all. They wanted information from her, so it seemed pillow talk was the way to get it. Trouble being, she got pregnant.

“Anyway, that has gone off track. It seems Melody is using and supplying drugs. One of the club brothers was involved with it too, but they have him, and don’t ask questions because I didn’t, so have no answers. When I heard about this pillow talk crap, I threw Bolt out and that is that, as far as I’m concerned.”

“Well, you have had a heck of a time. But, you know if I can do anything I will,” Ronald gives me a soft smile which I appreciate more than he’ll ever know.

“Oh, there is more. Aunt Mais threw Melody out when she heard the tale of getting pregnant by my man. Then it seems Melody twisted it so that all of a sudden Sacks was her man and I stole him. So, my mother and Aunt Mais blame me for all this. When my mother gave me hell about it I threw her out of my house, and I’ve been ignoring her calls.”

Ronald opens then closes his mouth at least four times before he stands, rubs his hands down his face, then walks to my side of the desk and wraps me in his arms, kissing the top of my head.

The door opens and Jeffrey walks in, gives me a wink, and then states loudly, “Get your hands off my man.”

Ronald jumps back as though he’s been burned and looks at Jeffrey with eyes that look as large as an owl’s. Blinking a few times before he realizes he’s been had. “Oh, you two are just awful.”

Both myself and Jeffrey laugh at Ronald, who is more than a little flustered before walking to Jeffrey and getting a hug and a kiss that goes on for too long for my liking.

“Get the heck out of my office. I have work to do. Oh, Ronald, tell security I want no visitors until further notice.”

“No problem. I will do that. But we’ll have a cheese and wine night. You can fill Jeffrey in on what’s happening.”

“Okay, what about tomorrow night or Friday?” I ask.

“Friday, then you can stay over with no work the next day.” Jeffrey grins, because it’s not been unheard of for me to miss a day after one of their cheese and wine evenings.

The rest of the day, I ignore all calls from my mother and Bolt. I had a message from Melody, but deleted without reading it. I really do not give a care what she has to say. My relationship with her is done, finished, never to return, as is my relationship with Sacks.

My mother and Aunt Mais are a different issue. I would like to keep both of them, but I learned a long time ago to put myself first. I love my mother dearly, but she had a wild and free time in her youth. She is a hypocrite when she speaks of young women she sees moving from one boyfriend to another. Something she loathes me pointing out. I also have a hunch she had a fling with a biker because she stays well clear of the club brothers in town, and had little to do with Sacks. Making sure she always had something to do when he was around. I’m sure one day it will all come to light, but for now, I may have to make a hard decision depending on her next move.

Aunt Mais is someone I love dearly, but she is Melody’s mother and I know in the end she will choose her relationship with her daughter, and soon-to-be grandchild, over me. I can live with that although I will miss her. Maybe I should think about moving out of town? Ronald wanted to expand the business so maybe I could think about opening an office somewhere other than here!
