“Oh, okay. See you then Michaels.” That’s another thing that pisses me off. I have a fucking name, you’d think the man would use it? He expects everyone to call him Philip, and yet he can’t give any of us the respect to call us our first names. The man’s a fucking idiot.
My cell rings just as I get into the car, Caleb’s name flashing on the screen. “Hey man, what’s up?” I start the engine and my car purrs to life.
“We’re going out tonight. We’re celebrating.”
I pull out of the parking lot and smile. “Oh and what is it that we’re celebrating?”
“I got the fucking contract!” He tells me and I laugh, “can you believe that shit? I fucking got it.” Caleb owns a construction company, he was one of the five that were in the running to build the new shopping mall in the city. It would mean a lot of work, but the money would be even better, along with the business that would come from it too.
“Of course you did, was there any doubt?”
He laughs, “Shut it. So we’re going out tonight!”
“Definitely.”
I hear whispering in the background and wonder if he’s already started to celebrate. “I’ll message the guys, I’ll see you in a while.”
* * *
I raise my glass and the guys do the same. “Congrats Caleb.” The congratulations go around the table and Caleb’s grinning like a loon.
“Damn, she’s gorgeous.” James says, he used to live with Caleb and I but moved out recently when he started work in a law firm.
“Her friend is even better,” Caleb grins, “Oh, would you look, there’s a woman for each of us. What do you say gents? Should we go introduce ourselves?”
I turn my attention to where they’re looking and my gaze lands on the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, those green eyes are wide as she stares back at me, her face pales as though she’s seen a ghost, then again, to her, I probably am. She’s changed a lot in the past three years, no longer the pretty girl that I left behind, instead, a gorgeous woman stands before me. Her brunette hair, longer than I remember, but it looks soft and I’d love to run my fingers through it. Her body is the body of a woman, her breasts are bigger than they used to be, but fuck, she looks amazing. She’s wearing a dress that looks as though it was painted onto her body, my dick tightens at the sight of her.
My feet move without my mind telling them too, my body knows her, wants her, craves her. There hasn’t been a day that’s gone by that I haven’t thought about her, haven’t wanted to call her, talk to her. But I fucked up and maybe, just maybe this could be a chance to rectify that. There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that I still love her, that’s never going to change. The question is, does she still love me?
The closer I get to her, the clearer I see the hurt in her eyes. Getting her to forgive me isn’t going to be easy, then again, nothing about her has ever been. “Katie,” I whisper as soon as I’m within touching distance of her.
“Garret,” she responds, and I’m shocked at the venom in her voice. “It’s been a while.”
I nod. “It has. What are you doing here?” Fuck, what the hell is wrong with me? “You look good Kate, you look so fucking good.” Her eyes soften and my hope soars. I take a step closer to her, “It’s so good to see you, what brings you to Hurtsboro?”
She gives me a sad smile, “I live here now, what about you?”
I nod, “I live here too.” I’m dying to reach out and touch her, but I’m afraid that if I do, I won’t let go.
“That’s good,” she glances at her friends and they’re watching us intently.
I turn back and see my guys are doing the same. Fuck, I don’t want an audiance. “Let’s talk.” She opens her mouth and I know that she’s going to argue. “We’ll sit over there, that way everyone can see.”
She nods and picks up her drink, I let her lead the way and I watch her ass as it sways. Fuck. I need her, I never realized just how much I did until now. “Fuck Kate, I’ve missed you so much.” I tell her as I take a seat beside her.
She gives me a small smile, but it’s not a real one, it doesn’t reach her eyes. “Are you happy Garret?” she questions softly.
I frown, “Fuck no, I’m not happy.” I answer immediately and her mouth opens in surprise. “I live, I work. I have my dream job and I’m good at it. But happy? No Katie, happy is far from what I am. My happiness ended the day I walked away from the woman I loved.”
I hear her gasp and watch as tears fill her eyes. “Why did you leave?”
I shake my head. “I’ll tell you everything Katie, I promise, not tonight. Tonight, I just want to have you.”
She’s silent for a while, and I sit back and enjoy watching her. The way she licks her lips after she has a sip of her drink. God, I didn’t think I’d ever see her again.
“Tonight Garret, you can have me tonight,” she whispers and my dick once again starts to harden.
“Shall we get out of here?” I ask, my voice deeper than before.
