I lean back, resting my head against the wall, “God no.”

She looks relieved. “Phew. I thought with you being tired a lot lately that maybe what stays in Vegas didn’t?”

I shake my head and instantly regret it as I heave, this time I do throw up. “Nope, it’s just the flu. I’ll be right as rain in no time,” I say as I sit back once again.

“If you say so.” She doesn’t seem convinced. “Look, I’ve got to go, I’ll drop by later and let you know how my date goes.”

I nod, “Yes, please do.”

She gives me a weird look, but shakes her head and leaves me alone in the bathroom.

Why would she think that I’m pregnant? I had my period three… no wait. When was my last one?

Getting to my feet, I rush into my bedroom, looking through my calendar, I start counting the weeks since I last had one.

One...two...three...four...five...Shit, six weeks!

Once again I’m running back to the bathroom as the nausea hits. How can it be six weeks? Surely, I’d have noticed. There’s no way I can be pregnant. I’ve got the flu, that’s all, right? I try to convince myself.

“Wakey, wakey!”

Huh? What? Opening my eyes, I’m met by a smiling Cassie.

“You look a little better, how are you feeling?” she asks coming to sit on the edge of my bed.

“Like I was hit by a truck. I’m so tired, I think it’s from all the throwing up.”

“Mmhmm,” she says and I narrow my eyes at her, “Oh, come on Say, you’re not that stupid.”

“Stupid?”

She turns to face me, “Say, we’ve been best friends for far too long for you to lie to me. Besides, you were due your period two weeks ago.”

“How do you know that?” She’s not wrong, when I went through my dates, I realized I’m two weeks late.

She waves her hand in the air, “We’re on the same cycle. Look, I bought you a test, just go and take it and we’ll see from there.”

“You’re not going to stop until I take it are you?” I question and she smiles widely. “Fine, give me the damn thing.” I tell her as I get out of bed.

She reaches into her purse and pulls out the offending packaging. “Go, I’ll wait here, I’ve seen enough of your bodily fluids already today.”

I roll my eyes as I snatch the pregnancy test out of her hands.

I quickly pee on the test, now I have to wait. I set a timer on my phone for three minutes.

“How did the date go?” I ask, may as well, I need to get my mind off what I’m doing.

She’s silent for a moment, “It was nice.”

“Nice? Cass, that’s no way to describe a date,” I tell her as I stare at the timer. It seems as though time is moving slowly.

“Okay, he was gorgeous, like out of this world gorgeous. He was funny, smart, attentive, and sweet.”

“But?” I hear one in there.

“But, he wasn’t Paul,” she confesses quietly.

Tears sting my eyes. Crap. “Cass, maybe it was too soon.”
