“And then Mama Sprite, Rascal and Locks said we should call them Papa Rascal and Papa Locks cuz they love grandkids and we’re theirs now. I love it here. I just wish Daddy could join us. But he’s fightin’ bad guys.”
Sprite’s heart ached for Blake. She missed her brother too and was starting to get worried without any contact. But Blake didn’t need to know that.
“Yes, he’s keeping us safe. Did you know that a lot of the men at the MC served too? Roam, Papa Rascal, Papa Baron, War and Bear did. I’m sure there’s more but I don’t know everyone yet. I bet when your dad is able, he’ll think Bluff Creek is cool too.”
“Winnie told us Grant got another brother. Now he won’t whine.”
Sprite bit her lip, thinking back to when they first came, and Grant whined about another girl. Of course, Matthew was too little for Grant to enjoy playing with, so he might still whine. She was enjoying getting to know the differences in their personalities.
“Mama Sprite, I’ve got to go. Beth is taking Phoebe and me on a secret mission to learn stuff. Then she and Sarah are going to teach us how to make pizza since Nana Regina is with you.”
Yes, Nana Regina was with them, thank goodness. Roam had gotten over the tears and then the anger had come. It had taken both Baron and Regina to calm him down enough to not have him storming the jail. She understood his frustration, but Shanna was locked behind bars. She was set to see the judge first thing Monday morning to see if she’d be held without bail or get out.
Sprite thought it might be a good idea for them to stay through Monday and see what happened. If she didn’t get bail, then they could relax for a little bit. If she was granted bail, then Sprite was concerned she’d bring trouble to the compound.
“Love you, Blake. Have fun. You know you can text or call if you need me, but it sounds like you have a fun, full day planned.”
“Yep. Love you too.”
Sprite smiled at the end to the call. At least, Blake had said love you before she hung up. Sometimes when Sprite would talk to her when she was working late, Clara would have to say goodbye because Blake had wandered off to something else that caught her attention. Now, to see if things had calmed down. She’d originally talked a little with Roam, but his anger was palpable. Sprite didn’t enjoy conflict. She’d heard motorcycles pull up and Baron had told Roam they were taking a short ride. A couple guys from the Texas Chapter of Bluff Creek were showing up to see if they needed help. She walked back into the main room and a man who she didn’t recognize was holding Matthew.
“Sprite, I’d like you to meet Roam’s younger brother Gage.”
“Mom,” the man rolled his eyes and held the baby with one arm while pointing at the patch on his chest. One side said Vice President and the other said Brew.
“Oh, yes, he’s been Gage since he was born and that’s what his name supposedly was in the MC, but Bootstrap and Dodge decided it didn’t fit him now.”
“I love you, Mom, but give it a rest. I’m gradually handing over the construction company to one of the other brothers. Bluff Creek Brews is where I love being and I’m freaking good at it. Of course, they changed my name to something else that fits. If Matt can be Roam, why can’t I be Brew?”
Sprite walked closer and stared at the darling boy in Brew’s arms. She held out her hand. “It’s nice to meet you. So, you brew beer. I’ve never liked the taste of beer. Maybe you could change my mind.”
“I’m going to figure out what to do for our supper. Before Roam left, he agreed the best course of action was that we should stay through Shanna’s sentencing.”
Sprite sat down across from Brew. “I’m new to the MC life. So, you’re Vice President but also have another job?”
“Yes, I’ve been head of construction and I like building and designing homes. But making beer and changing the flavors is my real passion. One of the other brothers who has worked under me is going to take over the construction company. And with now having nieces and nephews, the brewery allows me to travel more than the construction company does.”
“Does that mean you’ll be home more?” Regina yelled from the bedroom.
“Yes, Mom, it does. Do you harp on Ariel this much? War’s wedding was the last time she was home. I’ve been home more than that.”
Regina walked out from the bedroom. “Don’t act all high and mighty. Each of your trips coincided with your beer delivery to Nelson’s Honkytonk Saloon & Bar.”
“Mom, are you seriously getting after me for being a multi-tasker? Who do you think I learned it from if not you?”
“Sprite, nobody warns you that your adult children will throw your words back in your face. Be prepared. You still love them but sometimes you want to tape their mouths closed.”
Sprite giggled, then laughed harder as a huge fart noise came from Matthew.
“Oh, come on. You couldn’t have waited until someone else was holding you?” Brew whined but stood and walked over to the area they’d set up to change diapers.
Sprite was a little surprised that Brew didn’t even try to get someone else to change it. He efficiently changed the diaper, then brought Matthew to her.
“I’ll hand him back for a little bit because I’m walking this out to the dumpster. It’s too horrible to leave in the room with us,” Brew said, heading out the door.
Sprite cuddled Matthew close, admiring his cute button nose and dark chocolate brown eyes like Roam. She hadn’t been close enough to notice Shanna’s eye color, but Matthew resembled Roam as far as she was concerned.
She felt better knowing Blake was having fun and not really missing her. If they were staying through Monday, she’d need to reschedule her clients. Without checking, she wasn’t for sure, but she thought all her clients were actually connected to the MC. If so, they’d understand why she and Roam weren’t available.
