“I would think twice before calling the police,” I say.

“What, you think you just get to burn my house down scot-free?” he hisses as he holds his phone up to his ear.

“It’s your funeral,” I say with a shrug as I walk past him and out the door. As I climb back into my rental car, I look back and see smoke starting to rise from the back of the house.

I smile as I watch Nico run outside, his lips moving as he speaks to dispatch. I put the car in reverse and pull out onto the street.

My very next stop is the police station. I pull a baseball cap down low over my face, don a pair of sunglasses, and I walk inside.

“You need to see what’s on this card,” I say as I set it down on the desk of an officer.

Before he can even look up at me with a question, I turn and walk out. I climb back into the rental, and I aim directly for the airport.
