“Yeah?” I asked expectantly.

“We matched it up with several missing people in our database and we found a match.”

“And?”

“Adam Sweeney.”

“Shit,” Darryn answered. “So he was murdered, just like Liam Greene and Cameron?”

“The remains Forensics have found show no signs of trauma, so we can’t make an accurate call on how he died yet.”

“I’m not sorry,” I spoke. “I’m glad he’s dead after what he did to Annalise Fontaine.”

Mathias sighed. “So, when are you planning to approach Vanderbilt to ask for a job?”

“I had a meeting with him yesterday and no job has been given to me yet.” I held back from saying more.

“And?” she prompted.

“Nothing more to say, until a job is sent to me.”

“And what sort of job is it?”

“I won’t know until I’m notified.”

Mathias tutted under her breath. “I just don’t feel good about this at all.”

“It’s too dangerous to go on a job on your own,” Ollie stated.

“I doubt they’d let all three of us go.”

“How do you feel about wearing a wire?” Mathias asked.

“I don’t have a problem with it, unless…they ask me to disrobe.”

“Pardon?”

Darryn interrupted, “Some of the jobs are believed to sex acts.”

“Gretta, I can’t let you do this,” Mathias groaned. “It’s absurd.”

“I figure if I take my phone I could possibly record some activities.”

“Why are you doing this, Gretta?”

“Why? Why? Because it has to stop. All of it. We’re told to walk in pairs to class even in daylight. We’re told to be vigilant and have eyes at the back of our heads which is making everyone fearful. Why do we women have to sacrifice our freedom when it’s a chauvinistic society that’s causing the damn problem? Why is it so difficult for the alumni not intervene on the way the society has been conducting itself for so long? I just don’t understand what the members of the organization has over people. I guess that’s what I want to find out.”

Mathias paused for a moment to collect her thoughts, which were likely swimming in an ocean of anxiety. “This is what we’re going to do and I won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. As soon as you receive the notification of the job, I want you to contact me immediately to tell me where and when this event will take place, okay?”

“What will you do?”

“Send an officer down to watch your back. No, I’ll go down myself.”

“That’s why I have these two,” I told her, pointing to the boys with my thumbs. “A cop turning up at a job will only cause a mountain of problems.”

“Gretta, this is non-negotiable. I need to be there to make an arrest.”

“Okay, fine.”
