I pondered on his words for a few moments as he ate the chocolate mint slice. “You’re right,” I finally said, because he was right.

“Moi?” pointing at his chest.

“You’re smarter than you look.”

“I’m older and have more worldly experience than you, so you can say I do know a thing or two about people,” he explained while chewing the last bit of chocolate mint slice. “Now bring that lil’ ass back over here, so I can give you a kiss.”

He whipped his red baseball cap off my head and tossed it on the floor when I crawled back on the bed to him. He placed his mouth over mine and kissed me deeply and soulfully, tasting like mint and chocolate.

“Ready for another lesson?” he whispered into my mouth, twirling strands of my hair around his finger.

“Yep,” I breathed.

We performed the pretzel, a position where I sat open-legged on a stack of pillows, my back against the headboard while he kneeled before me. My arms were wrapped around his neck as he thrust into me, the penetration was deeper and a little uncomfortable at first, but I relaxed into it, quickly getting high from the stimulation and closeness.

Our lips were only an inch apart, his eyes gazing into mine, as if he was searching for my soul. I wondered what he’d do once he found my soul. Would he be shocked to see to it blackened by evil and corrupted by my defected bloodline?

He kissed me when the orgasm stirred my body and pounded harder. I dropped my head back and cried out when my body contracted, the orgasm infiltrating my body, the ecstasy and elation prickling my skin.

He was everywhere, filling me up on the inside, and eating up the empty spaces on the outside. Everywhere.

He kept the pace up until I was done and ejaculated into his condom.

“Are you alright?” he whispered, looking a little concerned.

I nodded, too out of breath to speak.

Gently, he wiped something off my cheek with his thumb. “Tears.”

“I had no idea,” I exclaimed, suddenly feeling embarrassed.

He glanced to the side of me and I caught an expression on his face I didn’t like. Guilt. I’ve seen him wear this armor before, but for some reason this time it twisted sharply inside of me. Something was coming I could feel it. It was only a matter of time, before the truth was revealed. It was only a matter of time before he ended the torture to confess to me why he’s really here.

Another damn great fuck.

The more I fucked her, the more I wanted to fuck her. She was open and willing to try anything, so that’s what I threw at her. Pity I’m going to break her heart soon. I was counting down the days when I finally release her from this cage of lies.

Eight. Eight more days.

We’ll drive to Stillwater on Thursday, stay the night, then I tell her the truth the Friday morning before she steps inside the prison. I booked a room in a cool place, a restored historic hotel built in 1927 that I’m sure Rhys would love. I wanted our last night together to be something special, before I dropped the gauntlet.

The girl was growing on me and that alone was a problem. However, once we returned to KVU, we’d go back to living our separate lives again. She can scurry back to the library to hide behind her books, while I’m back mindlessly fucking groupies and cheerleaders, and preparing for a future in my great grandfather’s company. It’s all planned out for me, neat and tidy, never mind that I’ll be fucking miserable. But hey, who is truly happy these days?

Eight more days. I can’t drop the pretense yet.

She rested her head on my chest as I read from The Divine Comedy, using a posh English accent that made her giggle. She had the cutest giggle ever.

“There is no greater sorrow than to recall a happy time when miserable,” I read aloud, pausing to mull over the words in my mind. “I suppose. Wouldn’t remembering the good times make you happy?”

“Sometimes,” her voice muffled by my skin. “If the person you were happy with is gone, then you’d be miserable.”

“Is he talking about a person? He might be talking about his favorite horse or something?”

Her body jiggled in laughter. “Oh!” She startled. “I have to ring mom.”
