“Oh,” Shannon replied with a shrug. “But you’re doing okay, right?”
“Of course. I love New York.”
“Any guys in the picture?” Shannon leaned into her sister’s shoulder.
“Guys suck.”
Shannon held her hand up in front of Sophia’s face. “Not all guys.”
“Shannon! What? You’re engaged? Why didn’t you tell me?”
Shannon’s giggle was adorable. “It just happened tonight.”
Sophia threw her arms around her sister.
It was the first honest emotion Jamie had seen Sophia exhibit since she’d sat down.
“You should totally go to New York to find a wedding dress, Shannon,” Jamie suggested. “Sophia could help you since she works in the industry.”
“I do know a few dress designers, but—”
“I love that idea,” Shannon blurted. “And you can come too, Jame.”
“That would be awesome.” She had always wanted to go to New York.
Shannon looked back and forth between the two of them. “Hey, since you’re both here together, I have a question for you.” She paused for suspense. “Will you be my maids of honor?”
“Of course,” Sophia replied like it wasn’t even a question.
“Yes!” Jamie couldn’t wait to share the day with them.
“So, how about New York, Soph?” Shannon said with excitement.
Sophia shrugged. “New York, here we come.”
Jamie found Sophia’s lack of enthusiasm strange, but Shannon didn’t seem to notice at all, probably due to her excitement over her engagement.
Chapter 36
I don’t understand this attitude you’re giving me?” Duncan stared at his fiancée in disbelief after she snapped at him for everything from his driving to dropping his jacket on the floor inside her hotel room.
“There’s no attitude.” She hung her jacket up in the closet and went about picking his up and hanging it as well.
“You’ve been finding one thing after another to argue about since we left Aunt Paulie’s. What’s wrong?”
Dréa stared at him.
“Just tell me. We’ve got to be able to work through our problems.”
“Fine. You want to know what’s got me so upset?”
“I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t.”
She raised an eyebrow at him. “Jamie.”
“What about her?”
“I saw the way you looked at her today.”
