“Morning, Shan.” Duncan gave his sister a bear hug.
“Morning. To what do we owe this visit?”
“Jamie’s buying me coffee.” He smiled over at Jamie.
“Is that right?” Shannon raised an eyebrow at her.
Jamie shrugged. “I lost a bet, I guess.”
Shannon returned to her desk. “Well, don’t let me keep you from it.”
“Wait, did you see this?” Duncan pulled the ultrasound picture of the baby out of his pocket. “It’s our little orange.”
Jamie’s heart warmed at the pride he displayed.
“Oh my goodness.” Shannon stared at the picture. “Look at the little head. Are those arms and legs?”
“Yep.” Duncan looked at Jamie. “At least I think so. It’s hard to see much.”
Jamie nodded. “It’s arms and legs.”
“We get to see them again in a few weeks for her ultrasound.”
“And we’ll find out what we’re having,” Jamie added.
His eyes shot to hers. “You want to know?”
“Of course. Don’t you?”
He shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know.”
“I hate surprises, and it will make it easier to plan and buy things the baby needs.”
“And buy gifts for the baby,” Shannon interjected. “So many gifts.”
“Don’t go overboard,” Duncan told his sister.
“This is my first niece or nephew. Of course, this child will be spoiled.”
“Oh, boy,” he replied.
Jamie grabbed her purse. “Should we go get that coffee now? I have a lot of work to do today.”
“Okay,” he agreed. “See ya, Shan.”
They walked out onto the street and fell into an easy pace as they moved toward Starbucks.
“How are you liking the new studio?” he asked.
“I love it. Shannon had everything all set up by the time I got back.”
“It’s a great space and in such a great part of town.”
“I know. That was the dream. At least it was Shannon’s. I’m just sort of along for the ride.”
“I think you’re more than that. You may share the space for your separate businesses, but you two are partners. I’ve seen you work together. You compliment each other very well. And you’re both so crazy talented. I’m blown away when I see the pictures you two take.”
“Thanks.” She was touched by his kind words. “I’m lucky to have found a friend like her.”
