“I planned to tell you how I felt and apologize, but to support your relationship with Max. I didn’t expect you to be available, and I had to snatch you up before I lost you for good.” He pressed his palms flat against the car, one on each side of her head, and leaned closer until his nose brushed hers. “And now you’re mine. Forever.” His warm breath softly caressed her mouth. “Engagement ring to come.” He closed the distance, kissing her firmly, and a delicious shiver ran through her body. She was thoroughly enjoying having unlimited access to his lips.
“Duncan?” she whispered between kisses.
“Hmm?” He didn’t stop.
“Can I please tell you what we’re having?”
He pulled back abruptly. “What? No!”
“Why not? I want you to know. I want you to celebrate with me and shop with me for baby stuff, and I can’t do that right now because if I buy a certain color then you’ll know. I’m tired of buying neutrals. There are cute baby clothes that are one color or the other.” She gave him her best pout, and he looked like he might actually cave. “Pleeease.”
“Okay.”
“Really?”
“But not yet,” he quickly added.
Her brow furrowed. “When?”
“I’ll tell you what. After we get married, you can tell me.”
“Like a wedding present?”
“I don’t want to know what I’m getting as a wedding present.”
She nodded toward the back of his vehicle. “You gave me the bassinet.”
“That was more for the baby.”
“I’m fine with it being my wedding gift.”
He smirked. “So, you get the expensive bassinet, and I get one word.”
“But it’s a really good word. You’ll like it.”
He grinned at her. “You want to say it so bad right now, don’t you?”
“Yes!”
“Well, you can’t. Not until we’re husband and wife.”
Jamie rolled her eyes. “Fine. And when will that be?”
“Tomorrow?” Duncan raised an eyebrow in question.
She ran her fingers up his chest and over his shoulders, burying them in the hair at the nape of his neck. “Not soon enough for me.”
Duncan leaned his forehead against hers. “Me neither.”
He wrapped her up in his arms and pulled her body flush against his. Just as he pressed his lips to hers, he jerked back. “Whoa! The baby kicked me!”
Jamie cracked up laughing. “I felt it. Coconut wants all the attention.”
Duncan dropped to his knees in front of her and held his hands on her belly, waiting. He looked up at her when nothing happened. “Think it will happen again?”
“I don’t—” Kick!
The two of them laughed together as the baby continued to kick.
