Jamie looked at Duncan’s sister with surprise. “He’s engaged to be married.”
Sophia raised an eyebrow and pursed her lips.
“He’s just upset about me starting a new relationship when I’m having his baby in a few months.”
“Look, I know my brother, and he’s got it bad for you.”
Jamie blew out a deep breath. “Well, that’s tough. He slept with me, went away to Denver, completely blew me off, and came home with a fiancée. I think I have the right to find someone who will make me happy too.”
“Whoa there, girl. I’m on your side. I’m just telling it like I see it.”
“He’s so confusing.”
“He’s figuring all of this out right now. Trust me. He’s got feelings for you.”
Jamie huffed in frustration then looked at Sophia. “Can I ask you something?”
She shrugged. “Sure.”
“Why don’t you want Shannon to get her dress in New York?”
Sophia kicked at a stone in the driveway. “What do you mean? I said yes to that.”
“I could tell you didn’t want to. What aren’t you saying about New York?”
“It’s complicated.”
Jamie pointed at her belly. “I think I know a little something about complicated.”
“I don’t work for Givenchy or DVF or any big-name designer,” Sophia admitted. “I never have.”
This was huge news. News Sophia should’ve shared with her family long ago. “So what have you been doing there for all these years?”
Sophia opened her mouth to answer.
“Hey, you two.” Shannon joined them. “Was that Duncan squealing his tires?”
“He’s jealous that Max kissed Jamie,” Sophia blurted, seemingly happy for the interruption.
“Max kissed you?” Shannon’s eyes sparkled.
Jamie nodded, distracted by Sophia’s admission.
“Duncan saw,” Sophia told Shannon. “Don’t you think he’s got it bad for Jamie?”
“He does.”
“You guys, Duncan is engaged to be married. I told you, this is all about the pregnancy.”
Sophia laid her hands on Jamie’s shoulders and looked her in the eye. “You keep telling yourself that, sweetie.”
Shannon laughed and headed back toward the house. “I’m going to find Micah so we can get out of here. I have a ton of editing to do tomorrow.”
“And by editing, you mean making out, right?” Sophia said.
Shannon glanced over her shoulder and stuck out her tongue before letting out a tell-tale giggle.
“I need to talk to Max before we go.” Jamie began to follow her but was stopped by Sophia’s hand on her arm.
