“Okay. Bye.” Jamie stared at the screen, her mouth agape. She shouldn’t have been surprised by Quinn’s blow off, but it bothered her. She rolled her eyes as she dropped her phone onto her desk. At least she knew who her true friends were.

Her phone rang again, and she snatched it up and answered without looking at the number. “Jamie Linde Photography.” Still feeling insulted by Quinn, her tone wasn’t exactly the friendliest.

“Hello, Jamie Linde Photography, this is Max McGregor.”

“Max, how are you?”

“I’m great. It’s good to hear your voice.”

“Yours too.”

“Hey, I’m coming to Grand Rapids again this weekend, and I wondered if you’d like to have dinner with me on Friday.”

Her heart skipped a beat. “Really?”

“Is it so hard to believe I’d want to have dinner with the most beautiful girl in the state of Michigan?”

“You’re so smooth,” she replied.

“I try. What do you say? Dinner?”

She paused, still uneasy. “Okay. That sounds nice.”

“Great. Text me your address, and I’ll pick you up at seven.”

“I will. See you then.”

“Can’t wait,” he said sweetly.

She sat back in her chair and stared at her phone. He had asked her out. Now what? She had to be honest with him from the start or this would never work. And she had a feeling this would be their only date after the truth came out.

Shannon was on the phone across the room. She wore that smile she only got when it was the man she loved on the other end of the line.

Jamie waited for Shannon to get off the phone and rolled across the room in her office chair. “I need advice.”

Shannon spun to face her. “Shoot!”

“Do you think it’s okay for me to go out on a date with someone without first telling them that I’m pregnant?”

“Date?” Shannon’s eyebrow raised. “Who are you going out with?”

“Max.”

“Max asked you out?” She practically shrieked.

Jamie held her hand up to try to calm her friend. “Whoa there.”

Shannon laughed. “This is so exciting.”

“Ya think?”

“It’s great, Jamie. But I had no idea you were into older men.” Shannon giggled.

“He’s not that much older than me.”

“Four years. He’s robbing the cradle.”

“If he knew there’ll soon be a baby in the cradle, he might not want to go out with me at all.”
