“I think I do, but I need you to say it.”

“I don’t want to be with Max. I want to be with you.”

That was all he needed to hear before his lips were on hers, his arms around her, bringing her closer. Her fingers slid into his hair, her mouth responding to his. Was this really happening? It felt too good to be true.

“Get a room!” a passerby called out.

They pulled apart and laughed as Jamie rested her head against his shoulder.

It was a perfect moment. Jamie in his arms, the soft breeze off the lake, sitting in a place they both loved. He reached down and lifted her chin to bring her gaze to his.

“You are enough, Jamie Linde. More than enough. You are who I want to be with. You and our baby. You’re everything.”

She grinned up at him.

“I love you.” Saying those words to Jamie came so naturally.

Another tear slid down her cheek. “I love you too.”

His stomach flipped at her admission, and he brushed his thumb softly against her cheek, wiping away the wetness there. “Will you marry me?”

Her lips fell open. “What?”

“You heard me.”

She sat up and stared at him, wide-eyed. “Are you serious right now?”

One side of his mouth lifted. “You’re the one.”

Her lips slowly spread into a smile. “Yes,” she whispered. “Yes.” A little louder. “YES!” She threw her arms around him and was in his lap in two seconds flat.

He wrapped his arms around her back and held her tightly against him, and they stayed in their embrace for long minutes, just holding each other.

“I can’t believe this is happening,” Jamie finally said.

Duncan pulled back. “Well, believe it.” He brushed his lips against her cheek, along her jawline, and nipped at her ear, eliciting a shiver and a soft moan. He squeezed his arms tighter around her. “Mmm. Promise you’ll make that sound every day for the rest of our lives.”

She giggled as he nuzzled her neck.

“I say we go to the courthouse right now and get the marriage license,” he whispered.

“Oh my gosh,” she chuckled and pushed him away. “We got engaged like two seconds ago. We have to pick a date.”

He kissed her neck. “As soon as possible.”

Jamie laughed as she extracted herself from his arms and stood.

He pouted up at her.

She held out her hand to him. “Come on, Romeo. I can’t leave the studio closed all day.”

“Fine.” He reluctantly stood and took her hands in his, leaning down to kiss her lips once more. “But I want us married before the baby comes.”

Jamie was beaming. “So do I.”

Chapter 43

The whole thing felt surreal. Jamie wasn’t sure any of it was actually happening. Maybe it was all a dream brought on by her crazy pregnancy hormones. But when she squeezed, his hand was there within her grasp. And when she looked to her side, he was smiling down at her with love in his eyes.
