I reached up, rubbing my face with both my hands. “I… I don’t know,” I replied honestly. “But they know now. Baldr already knew, but Loki will know if I’m lying. So, I guess we’re going to tell them the truth,” I sighed. “I have no other choice.”
“Do… Do you want me to stay in here?” Flynn asked, a hopeful tone in his voice.
I considered it for a moment. If Loki went off the handle, there would be no stopping him. A door was little more than a tiny hurdle in the face of an Alpha werewolf. He might not be as muscled as me, but he was still strong as fuck.
“No,” I said at last. “Come out with me. I want to keep you close in case Loki tries anything. Baldr won’t hurt you, but Loki? Well, I’d rather have you near so I can keep you safe.”
He nodded, putting on a strong face. “Okay. Let me grab my clothes.”
“Me too,” I nodded. “This is going to be a long talk.”
Flynn stood, but paused as he looked over at me. “You know what? This sounds really stupid and selfish but… I don’t know… it seems like the universe is giving us a chance.”
“You might be right. Fate destined you and I to meet.” I shrugged. “Maybe it’s trying to keep us together.”
“Yeah,” he smiled. “Maybe.”
Chapter Nineteen: Thor
The moment I opened the door, Loki started in on me.
“What the FUCK, Thor?! What the hell is wrong with you?! You missed the pack meeting and now I find you here like THIS?!”
My eyes shifted back to their Alpha gold in an instant. “Sit down, Loki,” I growled, leaving no room for argument.
“And you!” Loki barked, pointing at Baldr. “Why aren’t you upset about this?!”
“Because he already knew,” I replied before Baldr could. “But I swore him to secrecy.”
“This is outrageous! What is going on here?!”
“LOKI!” I snapped, grabbing him by the shirt collar. “Sit down!”
With hardly any effort, I tossed him into a chair, the wood crunching, but holding its shape. He looked up at me with fury and fear in his eyes. I took a deep breath trying to calm myself.
“Stop screaming,” I said, forcing myself to be calm. “And let me explain.”
Loki didn’t retort or try to argue, but he did cross his arms over his chest which was pretty much the same thing. He had that look of betrayal already and I knew he wasn’t going to be easy to convince. Baldr was already on my side at least a little bit. But I didn’t know if he was ready to break our most cardinal rule just so I could continue my little fling.
“Flynn,” I said, beckoning him over to me. “Come meet my brothers.”
He was slow to come out of the room and once he was, he practically ran to my side. Flynn wrapped his arms around mine, using my body as a partial shield. Clearly, he was just as nervous as I was. And after all of Loki’s bellowing, he was probably even more scared.
“This is Baldr,” I said, gesturing over to him. “He was the one that healed your leg. His magic reset the bone and stitched it shut.”
“Oh.” Flynn gave him a small wave. “Uh, nice to meet you. And thank you.”
“No problem,” Baldr replied with a nod. “I’m happy to see you’re feeling much better.”
“And the loud one,” I added, pointing to Loki. “Is my other brother, Loki. You’ve seen him before, but I don’t think you were introduced.”
“It’s good to meet you,” Flynn said, trying to smile.
“I can’t say the same,” Loki hissed back, his blue eyes cold. “What’s with all this pleasantry? You said he was just a guest!”
“He is a guest,” I nodded. “And… well…” I glanced down at Baldr, then to Flynn, trying to gather up my courage. “And he’s my… my mate.”
The room went so deadly silent I thought I’d gone deaf. But the tension in the air was palpable. Loki gripped the arms of his chair, the fabric squeaking under the strain.
