“Me too,” Lev said, smiling.
Although, it was fleeting with him lately. The smiling and joking around. He was really stressed about trying to track down Malcolm Lynch, feeling the pressure of it.
And worse, the desperation.
He wanted it so badly.
He needed it.
Like Mason with his father, defeating Lynch was the key to Lev finally being at peace.
Once it was done, all of us would be in good places. There’d be nothing holding us back or eating us up from within.
I leaned against him and kissed his cheek. “Almost there, brother. Then Hellraiser can come out and play one last time.”
“Well, it won’t be completely the last time. I’m still gonna do a little street fighting here and there. But for fun.”
“You are?” Bree asked.
“Yeah. Why? You don’t like that?” he said, eyeing her curiously.
“No, I do. I actually think it’s a good outlet. I know your dad wanted you to give it all up, but the street fighting isn’t the same. It’s a sport to you basically. A fucked-up sport, but still. It’ll help to offset giving up all the rest.” She shifted to face him head on, curling her legs up under her. “And I’m gonna come down and cheer you on when you start back up once we get back to Stonewell.”
“Cheer me on, hmm? Is that instead of kicking me in the balls?”
“Well, we’ll have to see. It depends if you really piss me off again, right?”
“Oh, baby, you’re so fucked.”
He lunged at her then, driving her down into the couch and tickling the crap out of her, making her giggle and shriek.
Unfortunately, before Mason and I could join in on the fun, Lev’s phone chimed with a sound I hadn’t heard from it before. He must’ve set up a special alert.
He stilled.
Then he was pushing off Bree and darting across the bedroom to one of the nightstands. He snatched it up. “Christ.”
“What? What’s happened?” Bree asked.
“We have a situation?” Mason questioned.
“Shit,” I uttered, worriedly.
But then Lev smiled.
His eyes darkened.
That dangerous look rose to the surface.
And then he told us, “I’ve found Lynch.”

I finally eased apart from my dad and the hug that had seemed to go on for ages.
I mean, I was all for it now that we were no longer estranged, and we were in a good place, but we had business at hand to attend to.
