She scowled and put her hands on her hips. “For one thing, you don’t say that to a woman.”
He crossed his arms over his chest. “Say what?”
“How old I am. It’s depressing when I think about it.”
Grant shook his head. “You’re not old, Sweetheart.”
“If I think about the number, it makes me feel that way.”
He abruptly pulled her into his arms and wrapped them around her. He set his chin on top of her head and grinned. “You’re not old, but you are short.”
His grin widened when she gasped and then used her little fist to hit his side. He grunted and pretended to be hurt. She snorted.
His body hardened when her arms crept around his waist, and she laid her head on his chest. He had no idea how long they stood there, but he could have stayed there for hours.
“Where would you like to eat, Sweetheart?”
“How about Mexican?” she replied.
“That sounds good. Do you have a favorite restaurant?”
She shook her head. “Anything besides Taco Bell.”
He laughed. Taco Bell was a Mexican fast-food restaurant that he always thought of as fake Mexican food.
“Don’t worry about that. I’ve never been a fan of them,” he told her.
He released her enough to take her hand. “Let’s go.”
She nodded and let him lead her out of the stable and into his truck. He listened as she talked about the dog.
“What do you think of the name Thor?” she asked.
He thought about it for a moment. “I like it. It fits him.”
“I thought so, too.”
He parked and then came around to get her. He wrapped an arm around her waist and led her into the restaurant.
“I like this place,” she said.
“Good. It’s one of my favorites.”
They were seated at a small booth and handed menus.
They ordered drinks before concentrating on which meal to pick. He watched her brows pinch together as she continued to read.
“You can’t decide which one you want?” he asked.
She relaxed and smiled. “They all look so good.”
“How about I order two different ones, and we’ll share?” he suggested.
Her face brightened. “That would be great.”
For the next two hours, they talked and ate, and he did not feel uncomfortable at all. She was very easy to talk to and be with.
Grant drove them back to her house and led her to the door. He took the keys from her and unlocked the door before handing them back.
