“Know what? We only make boys. A girl is a blessing from the gods. I don’t believe my father would hand that blessing to me. I haven’t done anything to warrant it.”

“Maybe you have. Or it could be me. Bradan, one of the babies is a girl.”

“How do you know this?”

“Bree and Nori. They told me just before you pulled me to you.”

His face breaks into a huge smile and then he grimaces. I bite my lip against the pain that rolls through me. Reaching for his hand, I hold it in mine.

“What can I do? Why wouldn’t you allow me to request help from your brothers?”

“I will be fine.”

“Bray, what aren’t you telling me?”

“This is my mess. I need to clean it up myself. It’s just taking longer for me to heal.”

“And?”

“Ace, Dom, and Nik are patrolling. I want to see if she comes back to finish the job.”

“What, you want to stay here like a sitting duck? Bradan, that’s crazy. I need to get you some help,” I say incredulously.

“You need to listen to what I’m telling you. I’ll be fine. That weapon is a problem. I need to remain here to ensure I’m the target.

“I’ll give it a day or two and then we will travel back. I’ll be healed by then.”

“What are you leaving out? You’re not allowing me to probe your thoughts.”

He scowls. “I haven’t been able to pull on my powers since regaining consciousness. My brothers have enough to focus on. I will get home on my own.”

“Listen, I don’t have a good feeling about this. I can teleport us,” I whisper, feeling guilty for fucking up so badly.

He gives a chuckle and groans. Then he shakes his head as he grimaces. “No, you might take us to Singapore.”

“Shut up, Bray. That’s not funny.”

“I know, baby. Right now, if I don’t laugh, I might pass the fuck out. Besides, I don’t think it’s wise for you to push in your condition. It will be much harder for you to try to carry us both through.”

I sigh. “Okay, fine, but we’re leaving as soon as we can.”

“You have my word. Now come here. I need you close.”

I get up from the chair I’ve been sitting in and climb onto the bed beside him. He grunts as he pulls me in close and wraps an arm around me. I settle in and close my eyes. This isn’t looking so good.

“I’m fine, baby girl. Just talk to me. I need to hear your voice.”

“What should I talk about?”

“Anything you want. Just start talking,” he rumbles.

As You Wish

“Good, you’re back. I relayed the information you sent to me. The weapon worked; this is good,” Aunt Azar says excitedly as we enter the office building she’s waiting for us in.

Or should I call her mother? I’ve had three days to allow this to stew and fester. We were told to wait the three days so we couldn’t be tracked back to her.

This is all a part of her plan. I want to scream and shout. My very own mother is one of the most powerful fairies to ever live and I was forced to be raised by others who were only half of what she will ever be. Not even half.
