I was proud of Taylor for getting her magic to peak, but I didn’t think she would turn over to this level. This is right before a king’s release—when our avatar appears.
My brothers and I are the only ones to ever reach that level but seeing Taylor do this so young in her training and magic abilities, I can’t help but wonder if this is her max.
I can’t help the grin that comes to my lips. My little mate is the cutest little flame I’ve ever seen. She runs at Seraphina and delivers a blow to her chest, sending her flying back into the wall.
Then she punches at the air, sending a ball of fire from her fist into Seraphina’s chest, then another and another. I snap out of my shock and jump down into the box Violet has opened.
Lola jumps down in after me, shaking the space. I glance back as a second vibration happens. It’s Violet.
When the fuck did these two get so big? I’ve seen their wolves before. They’ve never been this huge. I shake the thought off and go to restrain my mate before she does something she regrets.
Seraphina crumples into a heap, her head hanging with her chin to her chest. Taylor’s chest heaves as I hold her in my arms. I shh and coo for her to calm while I bury my face in the top of her flame as my mind races.
The wolves start to growl. I lift my head to see what’s happening. Seraphina is engulfed in a flame before she vanishes in a puff of smoke. I growl as the bitch gets away.
“This was Kendrick’s doing,” I snarl. “He released her, and she nearly hurt you.”
“Bradan, wait,” Taylor calls after me as I teleport to Kendrick’s room where I feel him and Ray.
I’m going to beat the shit out of him. He should’ve let me kill the bitch in the first place. If something would have happened to Taylor, I would have lost my mind.
Can’t Lose You
Igroan and blink my eyes open. I feel like I was run over by a truck. Twice. Lifting a hand to the back of my head, I hiss.
There’s a knot the size of a golf ball back there. I groan and pull my hand away to find it warm and sticky. What the hell?
“Easy, I’ve almost healed the worst of it. This necklace will do only so much. I’m going to get you help as soon as I get you stable.”
Looking up, I find Cole kneeling over me. He has a glowing pendant in his hand as he tries to heal me. I know right away he’s not going to be able to do much for me.
Half-breed mutt. He’s never grown into any of his powers. He might as well be human.
“W … hat happened? Where is she?” I hiss.
“I told you not to go after her. We should have escaped the moment I freed you,” he says. “I’m going to be in so much trouble for allowing you to get hurt.”
I scoff out a laugh. The action makes my chest burn and I start to cough. He allowed me to get hurt is funny.
I look around in disgust. I need to get back and kill that bitch. Those fucking bitches must have helped her to jump me.
I turn up my nose as I take in our surroundings. We’re in a dank, wet, smelly tunnel. My mouth pops open when I realize where he has brought me.
“Are we in the sewer?”
“Yes, it was the best I could do. We had to get away from those wolves. I was barely able to use the necklace to get us out, but they were on our trail. I needed to mask our scent,” he says and frowns.
I begin to slap at his hands. His healing is useless. It’s a waste of time.
With his weak magic, I doubt it will hold anyway. How dare he interfere and run like a coward? He may not have any honor, but I will not relinquish mine.
“I’m not hiding in some sewer like some helpless coward. I need to find that bitch and finish her off. Bradan will regret choosing her over me. Fuck those dogs of his. I will snap their fucking necks right after I burn that bitch alive,” I seethe.
“You’re not going to make it back into the compound. Besides, your injuries need more attention. I’m sure you have a concussion and the bruising on your chest is pretty bad. You probably have some internal damage.”
“I can’t believe I let them best me. I’ll be ready next time. It will be just me and her and then we’ll see what happens,” I snarl.
“Uh, Seraphina?”
