She waited until he finished his nightly routine and came towards the bedding.

Keeping her face devoid of her anger, she looked at him. “Rudra… I want to know more about your mother,” she said.

She watched his face, waiting to see vulnerability or softness in his eyes at the mention of his dead mother. But his eyes remained cold and unfeeling.

She gasped as he pushed her back on the bedding before he lay down next to her. Wrapping his muscled arm around her, he pulled her close to his hard body in a familiar grip.

Bloody savage!

She was annoyed by his lack of communication. But she wasn’t going to give up on her plan.

Sucking in a breath, she turned towards him, only for her breath to get stuck in her throat when her eyes met with his steely grey ones.

“I want to talk,” she said softly, placing her hand on his chest.

His eyes flashed darkly at her touch. She realized she touched him on the wound made by the bullet shot by her brother. The cloth used as a bandage was no longer there, and she could feel the uneven skin with the stitches.

Although her stomach began trembling, she looked into his eyes and spoke softly. “I want to know more about your mother. She was an outsider, and I somehow think I can relate to how she must have felt being away from her family and in an entirely new place that is so different from what she must be used to—”

“Stop,” he ordered. “Drop the act.”

She sucked in a breath. “It’s not an act. I really want to—”

“Stop.”

Her anger snapped. “I won’t stop! I have the right to know as your damn wife! You can’t shut me off or ignore me when I—”

A shocked gasp escaped her when he gripped the back of her neck.

His blazing eyes met hers. “You want your rights as my wife?”

There was a dark threat in his tone.

Although she was terrified, her anger drove her to dare him. “Yes! I do!”

There was no longer any indifference on his face. Watching her darkly with blazing eyes, he held the material of her top and yanked it hard, ripping it.

She stayed still while his hands moved and tore the fabric of her top and bared her upper body.

Her eyes remained locked with his when his rough palm cupped her breast possessively. She felt her cheeks heat when the tip of her breast hardened with the brush of his calloused thumb.

Even though her stomach trembled, she continued to hold his gaze, meeting his challenge.

The darkness in his eyes increased, and his head lowered, his mouth capturing hers in a hard and demanding kiss. He kissed her in a way to break her. But she remained still, not responding and allowing him to do what he wanted.

Her stomach trembled harder with each swipe of his tongue as it swept deep inside her mouth, tasting her and leaving behind the taste and feel of him. He was kissing her the way he was going to claim her.

She hated him, but his touch ignited a blaze inside her. Her breasts ached in need as the hardened tips of her breasts brushed against his chest hair. Her stomach trembled, feeling the length of his hardness through the thin cloth. She felt the familiar wetness between her legs as his tongue invaded the deep recess of her mouth.

Just when she thought she would break by either pushing him away or kissing him back, his mouth parted from hers. He glared darkly into her face, his breathing heavy and uneven. She watched him as she continued to remain still.

His jaw clenched, and he fell to her side on the bedding. Wrapping his arm around her waist, he turned her to her side and dragged her close to his aroused body, holding her as he did each night.

“Sleep!” he growled against her ear.

She didn’t sleep. Her eyes remained open in shock as she realized that she had won against the demon for the first time.

She had met his challenge and didn’t break down. She also realized another important thing. The demon didn’t force his rights on her even though he considered her as his wife.
