Uma slowly spoke in the Kabali language and told the demon something. She must have translated correctly because the demon’s eyes turned dark.

“Tam hums manlam mam ornayi thikri dhani…gvanni,” he commanded.

Nandini was furious, and as she understood his words. “No! I will not! Never! Tell him, Uma.”

Uma didn’t need to translate as the tone made it obvious of her hatred and loathing towards the demon.

“Tell him I can’t be his wife because I love someone else, and I am pregnant with that man’s child.”

Uma gasped loudly, and her face paled in shock.

“Tell him that, Uma. Please.”

It was half a plea and half an order, to which Uma only shook her head.

“Pakar,” the demon commanded, to which Uma nodded and spoke hesitantly in the Kabali language.

Nandini waited for the demon’s expression to change into fury, especially when he heard about the part where she was pregnant with another man’s child. But he didn’t say anything.

She looked at Uma. “Did you tell him I am pregnant with another man’s child?”

“Yes,” Uma replied.

“Then why isn’t he saying anything?”

“Because if you are carrying another man’s child, according to the Kabali clan law, that child will be brought up as a Kabali warrior but won’t be considered the Kabali heir. Only yours and Rudra’s child, who was born from the marriage blessed by Lord Shiva and Shakti, will become the Kabali heir.”

“Then ask him not to touch me until he can be sure it’s his child I will bear!”

Uma shook her head. “Everyone in the Kabali and north Singoor clans will know when you bear Rudra’s child.”

Nandini’s heart jerked in shock. “What do you mean?”

“The Kabali heirs have been born with grey-colored eyes for the past two hundred years. A baby born with different colored eyes will be recognized easily.”

Nandini wanted to argue that was a myth and cannot be backed by science. But before she could say anything, the demon’s deep voice said something.

Uma looked embarrassed. “Rudra says that you have to accept him as your husband. And if you try to escape again… you will not be allowed to wear clothes even during the day.”

Nandini’s face heated at the threat.

The demon said something else, to which Uma nodded and then left the tent hurriedly.

Nandini’s heart beat unevenly as she was once again alone with the demon. His grey eyes held hers as he began to undress.

She felt angry, frustrated, and terrified that none of her words seemed to have an impact on the demon. She also knew she couldn’t attack him or hurt him because he would bite her right back and then brutally kiss her before doing something even worse. She had seen him brutally slit throats and behead men.

Will he do the same to a woman who fought him?

She had never known fear before, even though there had always been danger. As the only sister of three billionaire brothers, there was always a security threat of some kind. But she had always felt confident that she could overcome any situation.

Until now.

Stuck with a savage demon with whom none of the civilized rules operated, she had no idea how to get out of the situation.

You can’t give up.

“Let me go,” she said, knowing he wouldn’t understand but hoped he would pick up on the tone.
