“I… need to go urgently,” she said. “I’ll have privacy behind those trees.”

The clan heir frowned before understanding dawned.

“All right. But do be quick. I want to enter the holy land before it gets too dark.”

She nodded and directed the horse towards the oasis. Knowing the clan heir and his men were watching her closely, she got down and disappeared behind the trees.

She leaned her back against a palm tree and closed her eyes.

Opening her eyes, she raised her leg and ran her fingers over her leg bracelet, which remained intact.

I hope it is working.

She knew it held a tracker that would help Rudra locate her.

She hoped her demon husband was safe and would soon realize she wasn’t in the Kabali encampment. Until then, she had to remain in Singoor and delay the impending wedding.

What if Rudra isn’t able to track me?

What if he is too angry and lets me go?

No. No. I know he won’t let me go.

Her demon might not love her, but he was protective and possessive, and he wouldn’t let her go.

Inhaling a deep breath, she went towards the pond in the oasis. Splashing water on her face, she sneaked a look behind.

She could see that the clan heir had gotten down from his horse and was waiting, his eyes directed towards the oasis.

With her heart thudding, she straightened and went towards him.

“We need to hurry up,” he said. “It’s already getting too dark.”

She nodded but then remained standing and looked at him shyly. “We are getting married soon, but I don’t even know your name,” she said.

The clan heir puffed up his chest. “I’m Girish, the powerful Dhankar clan heir.”

“Girish…” she repeated softly, stepping closer to him.

With rapid moves, she kicked him. The first kick was between his legs, and then, when he doubled over screaming, she kicked his nose, breaking it.

Even as he screamed, she got on her horse and began to ride away.

Her heart thudded as she heard shouts behind her.

“Catch her!”

“Stop!”

Hoping she could outride them all, she squeezed her legs harder and rode in the opposite direction of the holy land.

Even as she put in every effort, the sounds of the horses chasing her were getting closer. Just as she began losing hope and thought she would have to face the angry clan heir, she heard a familiar sound.

It was the sound of an eagle.

Her heart leaped as she looked up and saw the familiar majestic eagle above her in the sky.

He is coming for me.
